Underneath his mask, he couldn't help but smile and feel giddy the moment he descended from the airplane. He is finally standing on the same land as her.
The first thing he did was call her. The excitement and happiness was so evident in her voice. Until she rembered that they cannot yet be together.
On Video call, 2 weeks before his flight
"I know naman na you're magaling but please be careful ok, I don't like seeing you hurt." She said, doing her skin care while they're video calling.
"Noted ma'am, I promise I'll be careful next time and I have something to tell you." He said smiling widely at her
"What is it. Naku if that's kalokohan na naman" she said with narrowed eyes.
"I've just confirmed my flight home" Thirdy said still smiling.
"Really? When?" She squealed, her excitement is palpable.
"Thursday, 2 weeks from now. He replied
He was listening to Bea animatedly talking about all the things she wanted to do once he's back. But his smile slightly faltered.
"Uhmm" He was contemplating what to say next not wanting her excitement to ebb away.
"Is something wrong?
"We can't be together yet."
"But why?" It took her a few seconds to reply.
"Quarantine." He smiled apologetically.
"Oh yeah, I totally forgot." She said slightly pouting.
"Hey, it's just gonna be a few days and after that I'm all yours. It's for the best." He said to cheer her up.
"I know, I just really miss you." She replied.
He himself can't wait to see her and be with her again. But he couldn't risk infecting her and or any of his family if ever he was carrying the virus.
D-day of his arrival
He gathered his luggage and went to the car park to look for his car. He will be driving himself to the hotel for self quarantine.
There were only a few cars in the parking lot when he arrived and he immediately saw a familiar white camry.
"Baka kaparehas lang" that's what he thought but still chose to park near that car.
He just stopped the engine when he saw that the car window of the camry was being rolled down. Just then, his phone rang. She was calling.
"Welcome home, my love"
He rolled down his own car window and there she was in driver seat, beaming at him.
It felt like his world stopped, he forgot about covid, about quarantine, about the anxiety. All he can feel was the overwhelming happiness of seeing her again.
His mind was full of her. She looked so beautiful, with her hair shorter than the last time they talked. Her eyes bright and shining. He wanted to be lost in her gaze.
"Why are staring at me like that?" She said while laughing, still on the phone.
"I was just thinking how beautiful you are and how lucky I am to have you. i miss you much" He said while looking directly at her eyes.
She smiled wistfully at him. He looked sexier than ever in her eyes. Still tanned but more buff. How she wish she could hug him and feel those arms around her again.
"Naisip ko kanina how it's worse than when I'm in Japan, nakauwi na nga ako pero hindi pa rin kita makikita, so thank you for doing this. Di mo lang alam kung gaano mo ko napasaya."
"I had the same thought that's why I went here. I needed to see you in person kahit hindi kita pwedeng lapitan." She said with a hint of sadness.
Their eyes locked once again and even though not a single word was said they both felt the longing and the love that those gazes convey.
They both knew it was time for her to leave and he can't linger much longer.
"Take care of yourself alright? I love you." She said before starting her car's engine.
"I love you. I'll see you real soon." He replied before ending the call.
They exchange one last look and Bea waved good and drove away.
He watched until her car was no longer in sight before he went out. His footsteps felt lighter and he was elated.
Now that he have seen her, he can finally say that he was really home. She was after all, his home.
