𝐉𝐀𝐌𝐄𝐒 BARNES did not know what his live was meant to be. He remembers parts from his youth; his mom's favorite perfume, the little braids his sister would put in his hair, his best friend... The best friend he would have kissed if he could, if he was brave enough. He knew now that he should have. After going to fight a war so much larger than him and losing his arm -- after losing his mind over the span of 90 years, he knew that he should of forgotten everything else in 1942 and kissed his best friend. But he didn't. The only thing he knows now, is that he'll never be able to. The only thing certain about his future is that he's lost everyone he's loved, and he'll never be able to love his best friend.
Well, I guess that's not the full truth. He knows more now. In northern California, after dismantling a massive underground and hidden Nazi organization, breaking free of the mind -erasing torture, and almost killing aforementioned best friend, he now knows that he's been transformed (again) and that Derek Hale makes makes him alarmingly happy.

𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐄𝐊 HALE did not know what to do. He knows what his mother would have done, the usual course of action his father would take, what his older sister would do... The mother, father, and older sister that are all dead. Dead because of him. Because of his actions, because of his emotions, because of his stupidity, his family is dead. As a young, young man, he had been too trusting and far too loving for a woman that only saw him as a toy; precious prey for a vicious predator. He didn't know then. He didn't know until that old and dead love lost him another family member.
But... in all technicality, he did gain another. Well, he ends up kissing the new comer far too much for him to be considered family. After him follows five others, and then two more. Suddenly, he has far too much love again but, he finds with Bucky Barnes he's not afraid to give all of it away.
