DIRECTOR HAYES DEMANDED we meet him in the conference room in about...well, now

And by we, I mean Team X, a make shift task force made by the government that has been going on behind the scenes for decades.

If I had to explain, it's an organisation that works for the same causes the government would - it's just an excuse to commit the more vulgar actions that society would frown upon.

Dashing down the halls and making sharp turns, I'm lucky to arrive in the conference room just as our director is arriving, meaning I can discreetly shuffle to a corner and just mind my own business as he rants about whatever fuck ups we had this week.

That's usually what happens anyway.

"Team X." Is all he has to declare before the whole room's attention is worshipping him.

"One of our most wanted targets has been executed." His words silence even the pens tapping on tables.

It silences my brain as well. Because who could it be? Perhaps Selena Atwood? Carlos Devino? Eleanor Sparks?

"Callum Dickens." Director Hayes answers to the questions circulating through my head.

And never would I have guessed it be that name.

Callum Dickens has been far too tricky to track, to detain, to kill. We've needed him dead for so long - and his privilege and entitlement has saved him every goddamn time.

The Dickens family owns basically half of the property London is built on and their son Callum was one of the biggest negotiators in expanding their ownership over the land. Let's just say he didn't mind creating more poverty and debt for others to get what he wanted.

Not to mention the sex trafficking he was caught up in. So much proof, so much evidence - and yet a couple million of dollars saved him instantly. I remember how the room turned sour when we found that out. How the mood of the task force was never quite the same.

From silence to chaos, the room evolves.

"How?!"

"Who? Who did it?"

"I can't fucking believe this-"

"Enough." Director Hayes' voice cuts through the room.

Everyone silences again, used to his degrading authority. You don't fuck with him, especially since his job is basically just a government approved version of leading an assassination squad here at DB Headquarters.

"Dickens wasn't killed by one of our own," Director Hayes states, "His body was found in a dumpster bin, and due to the placement of cameras - there is currently no lead on appearance of the perpetrator."
