Rain

48 15 21

I look out the window,

To see skies of gray

Searching for color,

but it's all been washed away

I seek out myself

In the blurry reflection

And see bright eyes and a smile

Faked to perfection

Because the prettiest eyes

Have shed the most tears,

And the bravest of souls

Have faced the most fears

The most beautiful smile

Hides the ugliest pain,

And the puffiest clouds

Release the most rain

Weightless tears carry

The heaviest of feelings,

And the strongest of people

Have faced the most beatings

The brightest of stars

Shine in the darkest of nights,

And the most beautiful victories

Come from the roughest of fights

The kindest hearts

Have felt the most pain,

And yet rainbows only form

In the heaviest rain

Diamonds are created

Only under great pressure,

And the ugliest duckling

Now has the prettiest feathers

The smallest seeds

Grow the most beautiful roses,

And plants get their life

From that which decomposes

And yes, rain is painful,

It cripples and hurts

But it also washes away

The grime and the dirt

And while color is stolen

During the ugly downpour,

That rain gives things beauty,

That life we adore

Without all that rain

We'd be stuck in a drought,

Because too much of the sun

Kills every sprout

And during the fear

In the darkest of storms,

Is when the brightness of lightning

can only be formed

So maybe the next time

Life sends such hard rain,

I'll let it cry for me

And it can express my pain

The rain is needed,

Because though it brings strife,

It is absolutely necessary,

And maybe, just maybe,

It is the most meaningful part of life.
