prologue...

Although the story of Jane Gloriana Villanueva begins 13 and a half years ago, when Jane was at the mere age of ten, the story of her sister, Isabel Gloriana Villanueva, begins four years later- when the twins were 14 years old and entering high school together. While Isabel and her sister were both very different, the two had similar objectives for their freshman year of high school- stay on top of their work and fit in. Jane stuck to her plans very well, as she normally did. However, Isabel's plan went out the window when she met 18 year old senior Elizabeth Christian. The two were in the same gym class and hit it off immediately. Of course, going to a strict Catholic school, their relationship was forbidden. So, they hid their relationship from everyone, including their families, until Elizabeth graduated the following year. Elizabeth stayed local, going to the nearest police academy to be an officer. By the time Isabel had graduated high school, the women had been together for nearly four years. Being overprotective of their granddaughter, daughter, and sister, Alba, Xiomara, and Jane, respectively, didn't understand or necessarily accept the relationship between the two at first. However, as time went on, Elizabeth's charms eventually won over all three of the other Villanueva women. So, when Elizabeth came to the three to ask for all of their blessings to propose to Isabel, the three women were ecstatic and immediately said yes, despite Isabel being freshly 19. Elizabeth, now 23, had already been a cop for two years and, surprisingly, got promoted to detective, working alongside Jane's future boyfriend, Detective Michael Cordero Jr. She knew where she wanted her life to go, especially with Isabel. To the surprise of nobody, Isabel happily accepted the proposal. Michael stood beside Elizabeth at the wedding as her best man while Jane stood besides her sister. Now being 20, Isabel had almost finished her training with the police academy, just like her wife, and was already a civilian consultant, working with both her and Michael. The two women had moved in together and, for the first time in their 6 years together, had sex. Though Isabel was a rebel, she still listened to the lesson her grandmother had given her and her twin at age 10. Isabel was happy. She had a wife, she had a new job, and she had a loving and supporting family. Everything went to hell when a drug lord by the name of Sin Rostro shot Elizabeth Christian in cold blood, leaving her dead a few days later. Now, 22 and a widow, Isabel had no choice but to move back in with her grandmother, mother, and her sister. She didn't get out of bed for nearly a month after hearing the news of her wife's death, besides the wake and funeral, of course. Eventually, she was able to rehabilitate herself with the help of her family as well as her new partner, Michael Cordero Jr. Yes, Isabel Gloriana Villanueva took her dead wife's job. She also picked up her search to find Sin Rostro, the killer of the only woman she had ever loved.
