IT WAS RAINING, AGAIN. Y/N had come to associate rain with negative things over her past experiences, but she was beginning not to mind it.
That was, of course, until it impacted her crossing from her classroom to the apartment, given the way it was currently pouring over the open field. And Y/N was holding several paper exam notices. Without an umbrella.
How she still hadn't bought one, she didn't know. This had happened a couple too many times.
She was standing under the alcove, a lone person mobbed by pinwheels of black hoisted over other people's heads, considering her options, when someone nudged her by the shoulder.
"Still don't have an umbrella?"
Y/N rolled her eyes. "You don't have to be an ass about it."
Osamu just opened his umbrella in response, smirking as he pulled her close to his side so she was under its shelter as they set off into the rain. She actually began to find the sensation of hearing and feeling rain fall down all around her but never touching her.
Yeah, the rain really isn't that bad.
However, the admittedly heavy rain began to evolve into a storm, and they could hear a symphony of crashes and booms in the darkening clouds above them. They made it to the apartment with little rain dragging down their clothes, although it was minority misted all over their bodies, Osamu opening the door and turning the lights on, resting the umbrella against the door to dry.
Their relief was very short-lived, because, at that very moment, all the lights switched off.
Neither of the fully grown adults could help it – they screamed. Well, Y/N shrieked, and Osamu let out a very strangled, somewhat high-pitched noise, as they both dropped their bags and fumbled for their phones for light. All the blinds were down as well, not helping matters with the near-complete darkness they were suddenly submerged in.
"Shit!" she hissed, tapping anxiously at the black screen. "Mine's dead. What the fuck happened?"
"Water must have leaked into the fuse box or something," Osamu muttered. "But I think the whole building's out. Hang on–" his voice began to fade, indicating that he was moving away, leaving her no option but to stay put.
A faint glow emerged from his bedroom, along with his voice requesting she come in. Y/N obliged after quickly pulling off her shoes as he had already done, realising faintly that she'd never actually been in there.
Immediately, she could see where the light was coming from – a nightlight, made in the image of a storm cloud with a few smaller ones shaped like raindrops below it, illuminating the space timidly with a slight blue hue. It revealed a bed, probably around a queen-size (well, it had to be large for the twins, who were both a solid six feet), a couple of white bedside tables with drawers, and a similarly coloured closet. The walls were dove grey, same as all the others in the building.
