After meeting Jere and Steven at the country club, I decided I would finally go to the Cousins skatepark. I've been avoiding it for the past 4 summers since I learned how to skate. The skatepark back at our house, has a bunch of people that I've met and became friends with over the years. But I don't know how the people in Cousins go about their skating or how they treat new people at their skatepark.
When I get there it's pretty much empty except for two other people, one is a rollerblader and the other has a skateboard. They are both really attractive and they already seem to be friends.
I guess when it was built, the skatepark here had a lot of funds, because it's huge. It's a really nice skatepark, lots of areas of just flat concrete for newer skaters to practice, and lots of bowls and ramps for the more experienced skaters. There aren't as many railings to grind on as I'd like but I'm not really in the grinding mood today.
I think I'm just going to practice my kickflip which has taken me 3 years since I've learned my ollie to master. I can kind of do a kickflip, I just can't land one and it's killing me.
After about thirty minutes, the park is still occupied by the two people from before and me. I decided to give up on practicing my kickflip for now and just ride around. I drop in a few times and try to grind on one of their longer railings. It has no leftover wax from anyone who may have attempted before, and I didn't bring any with me. Ugh, just my luck.
"Err, you need some wax?" A deep voice says from behind me. I turn around and see that it's one of the two people. His friend only about a step back from him.
"That would be helpful thanks," I let out my previous frustration in a laugh.
"I'm Mark, and this is Willow. I've never seen you around." He says while handing me the wax.
I give a little wave to Willow and say, "I come here every summer. I've just been too nervous to come to the skatepark." and then I add, "I'm Cass- Cassidy, sorry." as an afterthought. Attractive people really seem to catch me off guard.
"It's nice to meet you! How long have you been skating?" Willow speaks up from behind.
"It's nice to meet you too!" I smile, "I've been skating for 4 years, how about you guys?"
"5 years," Comes from Mark.
"I've been rollerblading for 2" Is what Willow says.
"That's really nice, how long have you two known each other?" I ask.
"We've been friends since we we're, well forever. Our parents are really close friends." Mark speaks up.
"Oh yeah, I understand. I have a situation like that," My mind wanders to Jeremiah and I shake off the thought.
"I saw you practicing your kickflip, mind if I help?" Mark suggests. I agree with him and in the next hour I've landed two kickflips which is more than I've landed in the past 3 years.
"I really like your board by the way," He mentions when we're packing up our stuff.
(I'm seriously considering getting this board for myself lmao)
"Oh thanks," I chuckle, and hand him back his wax.
"Can I get your number? You seem really cool and I wanna be friends," Mark gives me a shy smile which my heart slightly melts at.
"Uhh yeah sure! ***-***-****," I'm excited to have made a friend in Cousins without the help of the Fisher boys.
Willow and Mark walk in the same direction while I head the other way, all three of us look back at each other and wave happily.
Jeremiah's pov:
"Hey where have you been?" I ask Cass when she walks in.
"The skatepark," She seems giddy.
"Finally! It's been, what, 4 years?" We've been pestering her to go to the Cousins skatepark every summer since she learned the basics of skateboarding.
"Mhm! I made two new friends there." She says while heading to the kitchen and getting a cup of orange juice. A pang of jealousy shoots through me, we're they romantically interested in her? It doesn't matter, I just need to be happy for her, she's finally breaking out of her shell and making friends on her own.
"That's great!" I cheer her on, but a little part of me is still jealous.
I hear her phone notify her of a message and when she checks it a smile grows on her face, "Well cya later Jere!" And then she's gone. Running up to her room. I was gonna ask if she wanted to take a swim.
Cassidy's pov:
My phone pings and it's an unknown number, I don't have to check the message to know who it is, "Well cya later Jere!" I say and then I'm running up the stairs to my room to text Mark.
'Hey, this is Mark :)' the message reads.
'Hey Mark! :)' I send back.
'You planning on going to the skatepark again? Me and Willow would love to join you!"
'Willow and I* ahem ahem' I chuckle a little at my response.
'Whatever' he says with a rolling eyes emoji.
'Well, anyways, I would love to join you and Willow at the skatepark another time :)' I've never been able to make friends without the help of someone else before and it feels freeing, like I'm finally and fully my own person.
'Great! I'll txt you later Willow's mom needs help cooking.' He ends our conversation at that, but it leaves me thinking, 'He cooks?? Can this boy get any more perfect?'
Don't get me wrong, I'm still not fully over Jeremiah, but I'm kind of starting to have a crush on Mark and having an itty-bitty crush on Mark is going to help me get over Jeremiah faster.
Don't get used to hour apart updates, I've just been writing nonstop lmfao
