LEE was born again in the spring.
All of the sudden the lights came on; his eyes opened, his limbs moved, and the world shifted. Suddenly his frozen skin had thawed, suddenly he was no longer cold.
When he first saw the lights, heard the music, his heart was rattled out of his chest. He had been alone so long, frozen for so long, scared for so long, he had forgotten what life sounded like. The anxious feeling was replaced by an ecstatic one, life finally swinging back into his stomach, feeling like he could get up again.
But the world on the other side isn't any better.
(Or: There's a boy in the upside down.)
