Max pov

It was the day after Lucas's sleepover when I woke up and found out that El was still on top of me. I looked around to see if Lucas was still sleeping, but he wasn't in the room. After five minutes, El woke up and I greeted her and fixed her bed hair. She got off me and started playing with her fingers while looking down at the floor. I asked her if she was okay and she said that she was ready to talk about the nightmare she had. I pulled her in a tight hug and she told me that something bad happened in the lab, where her father used to hurt her and do things with machines. Tears filled her eyes as she spoke, but before I could say anything, Lucas came in the room and announced that breakfast was ready. After two minutes, El and I arrived at the dining table and sat down to eat. Within five minutes of eating, Erica mentioned that she had heard about the messed up things that happened to El in the lab. I asked her where she heard that and if she was spying on us. I was frustrated and rolled my eyes at her. Turning back to the table, I saw El sitting there, embarrassed and with tears in her eyes. She got up and rushed outside, still crying. I followed her to comfort her.

Lucas's pov

"Thanks a lot, Erica," I said, running after El and Max. "Just the facts," I heard Erica say in the distance. I opened the door and saw the two girls sitting on the porch. I closed the door behind me and sat down next to them. "Is it true, El?" I asked with a concerned look. El turned towards me with her eyes red from crying and nodded yes. I pulled El in a tight hug. "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked while still hugging El. "I...I don't know," El said with tears still coming down. I pulled away from the hug. El put her head back on Max's shoulder, and we sat in silence for a moment. "Your nerdy friend wants you," Erica said with the door open and my walkie talkie in her hand. I took my walkie talkie. "Hello?" I said into it. "Hey Lucas, it's Mike. Is El and Max with you? Over," Mike said. "Yes, over," I said responding to Mike. "We need to discuss something. Meet me at my house in an hour. Over and out." I looked over at El and Max. "Mike needs us to come to his house," I said. "We heard," Max said while rolling her eyes. We went back in the house to get ready. Five minutes later, after getting ready, we grabbed our bags and got on our bikes, and started pedaling to Mike's house. After five minutes, we arrived one hour late. We got off the bikes and sat them down in the driveway. I knocked on the door. "You're late," Mike said with the door open, rolling his eyes. We went into the basement where we saw Will and Dustin waiting. "Hey guys," Dustin said with a smile on his face. We all sat down on the sofa. "We all know spring break is almost over, and we go back to school," Mike said while pacing around in circles. "Yeah, so what's the big deal?" Will said. "Well, I was thinking we all could hang out the day before spring ends. We could go to the movies," Mike said. "Oh, I can't. I'm busy that day," Max said. "Yeah, me too," El said. "Same," I said. "What?" Mike said angrily. "I can't believe this. I come up with a good idea, and you three say you can't come," Mike said. "It's just we already made plans to hang out with each other," I said. "And you just now say this," Mike said. "How were we supposed to know that you wanted all of us to hang out that day? It's not like you told us in advance," Max said, snapping at Mike. "Max is kinda right," Will said. "Oh, so you're on her side now?" Mike said, rolling his eyes. "No. I didn't say that. All I said is that she's right," Will said. "Whatever," Mike said. "Can we please stop fighting?" Dustin yelled. We all went silent for a while. "Maybe you, me, and Dustin can do something together since they're busy on that day," Will suggested, breaking the silence. "Yeah, he's right," Dustin said. "I guess that'll work," Mike said. After an hour, we all left Mike's house and went home. "Do you guys wanna have a sleepover at my house?" El asked. "Sure," Max said. "Sorry, I can't. Maybe tomorrow," I said. "Sure," El said with a smile on her face. We stopped at my house first. "Have fun at your sleepover," I said while opening the door and going inside. "We will," El said in response.
