The Other Side of the Moon

Family Matters

I originally posted this story on @booknerd2736,  but then got locked out of my account. So I'm rewriting and finishing the story here. I'm not stealing this story, both accounts are my own. 

This story takes place between lightning thief and sea of monsters. Percy is 13 and only been through the events of lightning thief, there was no time travel or de-aging. this is just where both Percy and Harry are in their stories. 

Percy stood in his cabin as he finished packing. Today was the day he was supposed to leave camp and return home for the school year. He was given the option to stay, but as much as he dreaded school he felt like he should go back. Percy grabbed his bags, and then headed to the Big House, Chiron had told him to meet him there before he left. 

Percy knocked on the door as he walked inside. "You wanted to see me sir?"

"Percy! Come in." The centaur was in his wheelchair and motioned Percy over to him. Percy sat down opposite him on a couch. "I understand you are planning on going back to school, am I correct?" Percy nodded. "Well there have been some complications."

"What do you mean?" Percy asked slightly panicked.

"I'm afraid your mother has not been entirely honest with you." Percy sent Chiron a confused look, but the centaur continued before he could interrupt. "Your mother did know Poseidon. They were close for a time, but they did not have you. You were already born when Poseidon and Sally Jackson met. She is not your birth mother, a woman named Lily Potter is."

"What? You're joking! There is no way mom wouldn't have told me that!" Percy stood up and was shouting, but Chiron raised his hand and silenced him, and Percy slowly sat back down. 

"As far as Sally cares, you are her own. She has raised you since you were one year old. She is your mother, she just didn't give birth to you."

"Why are you telling me this?" Percy asked. "Why not Mom? Why now?"

"There have been some circumstances that are requiring you to find out about it now. Your father was sent to earth 28 years ago by Zeus as a punishment. He was sent to England as a 5 year old boy with no memory of being a god. He was given to an older couple who had been unable to have children. They raised your father for years like he was their own. 

"The couple who raised him, and the world he grew up in, was not one of regular mortals. They were wizards." Percy was about to protest but Chiron shook his head. "No I'm not lying. A group of mortals were blessed by the gods a couple thousand years ago, and their descendants still have powers. This group became known as wizards. 

"So your father grew up as the wizard James Potter. When he turned 11 he went to Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. There he met Lily Potter, and shortly after they graduated they got married, and they had twins."

Chiron paused and waited for Percy to understand. 

"Wait..." Percy said after a moment, "You mean, that I have a brother? I'm a twin??"

Chiron smiled and nodded, "His name is Harry Potter, and he lives in England."

"With my birth mother?"

Chiron sighed, "This is where things get complicated. As your father and birth mother were finishing school, a dark wizard was rising to power.  His name was Voldemort. He was gathering followers, killing muggles, non-wizards, and trying to take over the wizarding world. There was a group of people fighting against him, and your parents were with them. There was a spy among this group of people. He betrayed your parents to Voldemort, and attacked your house one night. 

"Your father at this point knew he was Poseidon and could have returned to his life as a god, but he hadn't wanted to leave you, your brother or your mother. He felt obligated to fight for the world he had lived in for over the last decade and protect the people he cared about. The night Voldemort attacked your father grabbed you while your mother grabbed Harry. 

"Voldemort 'killed' James, while in reality it just killed the mortal form he was taking. Poseidon flashed away with you and ended up in New York. This is when he met Sally. He was weak and hurt and she saw him stumbling down the street with a baby in his arms and she took the two of you in. Once he regained his strength he had to leave, but he left you with Sally."

"What happened to my brother, and my mother? Birth mother?" Percy was stumbling over his words in shock. 

Chrion sighed, "After Voldemort killed James, he made his way upstairs to where Lily was hiding with Harry. Initially he gave Lily the option to survive, but she sacrificed herself trying to save Harry. Voldemort killed her, but her love and sacrifice stopped him from killing Harry. This is a very ancient and powerful magic, not one that can be intentionally wielded.  It saved your brother's life though and hurt Voldemort enough that he disappeared and hasn't  reappeared in 12 years."

Percy thought for a moment. "You still haven't explained why you're telling me this now."

"The man who betrayed your parents to Voldemort, he was imprisoned but escaped a few days ago. He is one of the only people who knew that you and Harry both existed. People knew that James and Lily had a child, but they ended up in hiding before she gave birth, so almost no one knew she had twins. It is believed that this man, Sirius Black, might come after you or Harry to try and finish what Voldemort started. So I have talked with your mother, and we have agreed that you will go to Hogwarts with Harry this year, something that should have happened two years ago, and you will be safe there."

"You want me to just move to England? What about camp and training? What about Mom?" Percy demanded. 

"You will go home today and have a little over a week with your mother before someone from Hogwarts will come collect you. You will return to camp like normal in the summer, and you will still have chances to visit your mother. Hecate has agreed to give you the knowledge and information about magic and the wizarding world you would have gotten in the last two years had you gone to Hogwarts so you will not be behind. I know I've given you a lot to think about. Go home, talk to your mother, and have a good year. Oh and Percy, please do not go looking for trouble."
