Mays POV
When Peter was 3 years old Mary and Richard announced they were going to have another baby. Me and Ben were very happy but Peter was so excited. One of his friends was a big brother and he always told Peter about how fun it was. When Mary was 3 months pregnant the doctors warned her and Richard that it was a high risk pregnancy. They tried there best to make everything go as perfect as they could. The baby was a girl and they decided to name her Teressa. She was born prematurely at 28 weeks and 4 days. Mary's labor was 34 hours. Long and painful. Mary and Richard asked me and Ben to watch Peter during it.
"When's mama and daddy coming back?" Peter asked
"I don't don't know sweetheart. Your mama is having your little sister" I tell him
"Then why isn't daddy here?" Peter says as he stops his coloring for a second
"Because he's with your mama, comforting her"
"Ok!" Peter says as counting coloring
I go the kitchen to were Ben is making Peter and snack
"What's he doing?" Ben says as he cuts a apple up
"He's just coloring in that Captain American book you got him" I say grabbing peanut butter from the fridge for the apple slices
"He has already did half of the book" Ben said
"You'll just have to get another one for him" I respond
Just then the house phone rings interrupting me and Bens conversation
"I'll go get that" I say walking out the room
"Hello?"
"Hi May" A voice on the line says
"Richard is that you? Is Teresa born?" I question
"Yah she was born about 10 minutes ago but she's really small and the doctor aren't sure if she's going to make it" Richard says with a sob in his throat
My heart drops when he says that. How should I tell Ben .What would I tell Peter. Should I tell Peter. Should I bring him to meet his sister or not. Should I even ask Richard to bring Peter.
"Do you want me bring Peter" I finally ask
"Uhh yah, Mary is asleep right now but I feel like Peter should meet his sister even if something happens to her" Richard says quietly
"Bye May" he says immediately after
"Ok I'll tell Ben and bring Peter, Bye Richard" I say as the call ends
At the hospital
"Mama!" Peter says running up to Mary and hugging her
"Hi baby" Mary says in a quiet voice
"Where's my sister" Peter says in a very excited tone, oblivious of what is happening
"She's asleep Peter, In the NICU, do you know what that is Peter?" Mary asks
"No" Peter responds
"Well how about daddy takes you to see your sister while mama talks to your aunt and uncle" Mary says while pressing a button to call her nurse because you have to schedule before an sibling can see a baby in the NICU.
After everything is set up Peter and Richard leave. Mary looks tired as one would be after that long of a labor.
"So what's going to happen?" I say after the silence in the room became to much
"Umm.. we'll there not sure if she's going to make it, like what Richard said, and I'm not sure what else is going to happen they haven't really said anything but I'm really worried" Mary responded
"What does she look like?" Ben says right after
"She has very little hair but it's orange, and her eyes are green but they aren't fully sure yet but that's what they think" Mary says
"So the perfect mix of both of you, like Peter except the opposite" I say while me and Ben go to sit down on the chairs in the room
"Yep Peter has is father hair and my eyes and Teresa has my hair and her daughters eyes" Mary says slapping her thighs
With Peter and Richard NICU
Richards POV
"You see her Pete" I say picking up Peter so he can get a quick look at his sister
"Why is she so small?" He responds in a curious tone
"Well because she came early, she was supposed to come in 2 months" I say to answer his question
I'm not sure what to do. If Teresa doesn't make it how will I explain it to Peter. He already loves his sister so much.
"Daddy I'm hungry" Peter says after I got lost in my thoughts
"Let's go get you a snack Pete" I say as I wipe the tears on my cheeks
Mays POV
Teresa unfortunately didn't make it and passed away 2 days later. Mary and Richard were devastated and Peter was confused and upset. Mary and Richard needed to process what happend and grieve by themselves so me and Ben had Peter stay at our house for a little. They started going to more and more missions and leaving Peter with us. They of course still lived Peter so much but I guess there grieving process was to drown in there work. They had a funeral for Teresa and burrows her at the grave yard so now they can always have a grave stone they can visit. Me and Ben have been helping Peter grieve and he's been doing a little better. Let's just hope we can say the same for Mary and Richard soon.
