Mirna paced outside the exam room, waiting for any news on Bucky.
She was a therapist. She shouldn't be getting nervous like this, right?
The door opened and Mirna stopped abruptly, seeing Bucky.
"So? What'd she say? Are you yourself? Do I need to be worried? Are the words gone?"
A light smile crossed Bucky's lips as he took her hands. "I'm free she thinks. She wants Ayo to test the words tonight, but Shuri is pretty certain that it worked."
She smiled as she threw her arms around him and said, "I love you, James." She stepped back. "I just said that."
Bucky nodded. "Yeah, you did. I love you too, Mirna."
"I want a future with you. I've considered all my options and it all leads back to one thing. You. You've made me happier in the few years I've known you than anyone ever has. And being on the run was a lot of fun."
"Are you proposing, doll? Because I'm pretty certain that's my job."
"It's the 21st century. A woman can propose if she wishes. But no. I'm not proposing. Would you be opposed if I did?"
"A little. But a gentleman proposing is an old-fashioned notion that I'd love to be able to do one day."
"Maybe soon," she replied slyly. "Now that I'm able to focus, knowing you're likely going to be okay, I've got some things to take care of."
Bucky placed a hand to her cheek and stroked it with his thumb, smiling as she placed her hand to his then walked away.
He watched as she left and smiled. Despite all he'd been through, all he'd done, she had chosen him, and she had stayed, and for that he would be forever grateful.
