"let's get this one!" maddy smiled, she pulled out a dress as joseph watched and admired her. "oh- wait, i'm getting a call. i'll be right back" joseph lightly nodded and maddy went to go answer the phone, it was her assistant.
"hey! is everything okay?"
"you got that job, but there's a twist."
"yay, first of all. second of all, what's the twist?"
"you're working with your ex. it's not just any ex either, it's that manipulative one."
"what?" maddy felt a tear begin to form. would joseph be alright with this?
"what about joseph?"
"well, it's a good job offer. i wouldn't reccomend turning it down, but if you want to i completely respect your decision"
"*maddy's decision*, i'm just gonna go tell joseph." maddy hung up the phone and walked back into the store. (i'm not giving you what she said just yet.)
"joe, baby can we talk?" maddy looked at her shoes, joseph looked down at her with a concerned look, quickly hanging the dress back up as he nodded and they both slowly walked back out of the store.
"what's up? is everything okay?" joseph grabbed her wrist softly and with his free hand lifted her chin up to look at him.
"i got a job-" maddy began, joseph smiled and was about to celebrate "but... there's a twist"
"what's the twist?" joseph scrunched his face up in confusion
"well, remember that really toxic ex i told you i used to work with?" maddy felt a tear form in her eyes. "i'm going to be working with him."
"oh." joseph let go of her wrist and looked down at his shoes. "did you take it?"
"well- yeah." maddy sighed "it's a job. i need it for money i can't just refuse."
"without considering my feelings?" joseph sighed, slowly beginning to walk away. maddy stopped him
"are you leaving me?" maddy spoke in shock.
"i just- have to think." joseph threw his hands up in defeat as he slowly walked away.
"can't we talk about it and think together? i mean- we're adults?" maddy felt her heart drop.
"as i said, i need to think mads." joseph sighed, turning around to face maddy.
"do you not trust me?!" maddy felt a tear roll down her cheek.
"it's not that-"
"then what is it then?" maddy cut him off. "i simply can't turn this job down, it's not like i'm an extra or a side character. i'm the main!?"
"i know- i just can't bare seeing you with your ex." joseph sighed.
"i'm gonna .. go" maddy dismissed the conversation as she walked away. "i'll see you later." she needed to think, was their relationship really about to end because she accepted a job?
