Prologue

She has a fever. A high fever.

Yet she looks healthy.

And so beautiful.

But she's obviously tired.

I can see it in her eyes.


I asked, "So what did the Doctor say?"


She shook her head.


"...you think it's COVID?"


She stayed silent.


I didn't care any way. I snuggled in the bed with her.


Her warmth, definitely far from normal, trapped beneath the thick blankets she must've been using to stave off the coldness only she could feel.

How could I ease her pain? Is there anything I could do aside from continually nursing her until she's back in perfect health?

Somehow, three words just left my lips:


"I love you."


I will stay with you. I will always be here no matter what. Screw the contract tracing and quarantine protocols.


All throughout these inner thoughts I never parted my gaze with hers.


After a moment, that's when her mouth started moving for the first time, stirring within me a bout of relief.

Finally, she whispered:


"I reeeeeally love you.... too."


---Ever so weakly... that it's more fitting to say I only imagined her voice and just read her lips.


I woke up.

A lucid dream.

I really hope and pray that she's fine.
