It was supposed to be normal training, no one was supposed to get hurt. But, this time, this time we've lost a classmate and I can no longer see. I've been bed ridden and told that I was unconscious for three days, but the worst news... they told me Hajime is believed to be dead.

I've been sitting in silence with no one else around for what feels to be an hour or so, I can't tell, when the door creaks open and a female voice speaks to me.

"Tadashi-kun?" She speaks and I know who it is now, she must be taking the news on Hajime just as badly as I am.

"Kaori?" I speak up and I can hear her footsteps coming closer, a dip in my bed tells me she's sat down next to me.

"How are you feeling?" She sounds like she may hurt into tears and any moment.

"I'm not sure how to process all of this... but..." I stop myself not wanting to bring Hajime into conversation incase I end up upsetting her. I sit silent for a moment until I get dragged into a tight hug. I hear Kaori sobbing and I can feel her tears saturating my shirt and the bandages underneath it. I wrap my arms around her and bring her closer to me. She begins to speak through her tears.

"I don't believe that Hajime died, I don't believe it. He has to be alive down there, he must be so scared" I hug her tighter to try and comfort her. We may have been told Hajime died but I don't believe it either the Hajime I know wouldn't give up just like that.

"I know, we'll find him I promise" it's the only thing I can say to attempt to comfort her. We sit there in silence the only sound is occasional sniffles from Kaori. She pulls away after 10-20 minutes.

"Thank you Tadashi-kun, but won't you be told to stay put because of your eyes" I tilt my head down remembering what was told to me by Commander Meld.

<< Flashback <<

I just woke up I couldn't see anything and was panicking when I heard a loud, authoritative voice speak up.

"Calm down Tadashi"

"Commander Meld! Why can't I see what's happening?" I feel a large hand press down on my shoulder and I slowly calm down. I tilt my head down and speak again. "I'm sorry for reacting like that, but what happened?" I hear the hesitation before Meld began to fill me in on what happened, my loss of eyesight and my other wounds which supposedly brought me close to death and Hajime's supposed death.

I breakdown crying into my hands when Meld throws his arms around me. He apologises for not being able to do more at the time and that he's sorry for my loss. After a while I've stopped crying and ask the next most obvious question.

"What's going to happen to me now?" I ask tentatively. Commander Meld sighs in frustration and I flinch wondering if I've done something wrong, he picks up on this.

"You've done nothing wrong Tadashi. The higher ups expect you to learn how to function and fight without the use of your sight" his words stun me, but he continues. "I tried to reason with them but they said that this was non negotiable as we've already lost one hero losing another wouldn't be ideal" he stops talking and sighs again from the clinking of his armour I can only guess that he's rubbing his face in anger. "They said that your 'rehabilitation' will begin as soon as you can get on your feet" I was astonished to say the least but happy that I could keep fighting, I had faith Hajime was out there somewhere and that he was still fighting so I don't want to stop either.

"Thank you Commander Meld, I'll be on my feet within the next week" I could feel his slight recoil at my words.

"Are you sure? This won't be easy for you to adjust to" I nodded, I don't want to wait long, I want to get stronger and find Hajime.

>> End of Flashback >>

After I finished explaining what would happen to Kaori she said she understood and left. It was the middle of the night, I couldn't tell. She said to go to sleep. I'm going to tell Meld that I want to start as soon as he comes back.

Time-skip

I woke up a while ago to no one in my room but I could smell food. I stuck my arm out to feel around the edge of my bed and I felt what seemed to be a cart with a tray on it. I shuffled to the end of my bed and tried to feel for something. There was a plate presumably it has food on it but I'm not sure what. Just as I was about to try to identify what was in front of me the door opened and a slight breeze entered my room. Chunky, metallic footsteps rang in my room so I could only assume that it was Commander Meld.

"Commander Meld, good morning" he stopped abruptly upon, seeing me? I think and quickened his footsteps to sit next to me.

I have a quick chat with the Commander and he tells me what is on the plate, then he gives me a run down on what I'll have to do for the next, presumably, couple of months. Learn how to navigate without help from anything, learn braille and re-learn how to fight but without my sight. In theory this all seems quite easy but I doubt it's as easy as the run down he gave it makes it out to be.
