Chapter 4

Interrogation continued with Savi

Swadheenta caressed Savi's head "Acha ye batao, aap uss din school se ghar aaye the aur aapse khana gir gaya tha, phir aapne aur khana maanga that tab kya hua tha?"

Patralekha started sweating like a pig when she heard such a detailed question, her only hope was that Savi will not say the truth but it went down the drain when Savi said while indicating at her "Wo aunty hai na, mele ko bahot gussa kia aur mujhe milchi (chilli) khilayi".

Chavan family glared at Patralekha, she tried to hide away but there was no point in doing it when Swadheenta called her out "Mrs Chavan, kya hum log aapke iss behaviour ka reason jaan sakte hai?"

Patralekha thought of every possible excuse but couldn't say anything at the last minute. She started saying "Mirchi nahi thi......" but Savi beat her to it "Aayi, ye aunty apko bhi ganda ganda bolti hai aur kehti hai ki main aapke saath nahi reh sakti aur maine Baba ko bataya to wo bol rahe the ki Aunty mujhe mirchi kyu degi". Sai mumbled to her "Aunty aise hi gande joke maarti hai, unko pata nahi chalta kuch bhi aur tumhare Baba ko bhi."

Advocate Manjrekar stood up from his seat "Sir, itni choti bachi ki gawahi court mein valid nahi hai". Judge's attention shifted to Jagtap when he said to Savi "Arrey meri choti photographer, main tere ko wo phone dia tha, usmein video banayi tu, teri iss Aunty ka?"

Savi nodded and gave the phone to him, he gave it to Swadheenta and she passed it to the judge "Bachi ki gawahi na sahi, bachi ke banaye video toh valid hai na? Abhi video dekh lijiye, phir uski genuinity report court mein submit kar di jayegi"

Judge started checking the video and Sai's eyes went red in anger after noticing Patralekha's tone while talking to Savi when they were alone in Chavan Niwas and she surely fed her a handful of red chilli when Savi asked for more food. Things got worse when they saw that she was trying to scare Savi and saying that if she will tell about it to anyone, Vinayak will never meet her and she will have to live alone in the store room. Judge asked the constable to take away Savi to a different room before continuation of discussion.

Sai angrily looked towards Patralekha and gritted her teeth "Ajtakk baat meri thi, lekin ab meri beti aur mere BETE ki hai, tumhe koi nahi bacha payega iss baar, criminals ki help karne wala ye Chavan parivaar bhi nahi". Chavan family started murmuring among themselves after listening to son and daughter, but they looked at Patralekha in confusion when she started muttering "Nahi nahi, Vinu mera aur Virat ka beta hai, main usse kahi nahi jaane doongi."

Virat stood up from his place "Sir, yahan case meri beti ka hai, Vinayak ka nahi hai." Swadheenta smirked and showed a counter petition they have filed in court against Virat Chavan but as per his habit their lawyer was too busy to read all the papers thoroughly, second part of the petition clearly said "Custody case of Vinayak Chavan." 

Swadheenta indicated Jagtap to do the needful and he came back with a lady, Patralekha looked at her with horrified expressions and said to the judge "Sir, mujhe kuch zaruri kaam hai, thodi der bahar jana chahti hu." Before the judge could say anything Swadheenta smiled sweetly and asked her "Mrs Chavan main bas aapke 5 minute loongi, itna toh delay kar sakti hai na aap apne zaruri kaam ko?"

Patralekha nodded reluctantly and sat down to see her doom, she cursed herself for the moment when she decided to destroy Sai but now she is on the verge of seeing her own destruction and she's aware that nobody will be able to save her.

Virat looked at the lady in confusion "Aap toh orphanage ki caretaker hai na, jahan se hum logo ne Vinayak ko adopt kia tha?" The lady bobbed her head but looked at Swadheenta when she asked "Mrs Roy, kya aap bata sakti hai Vinayak aapko kab aur kaise mila tha?" Mrs Roy explained how their maid found an injured baby at the door of the orphanage and later he was adopted by Virat Chavan but she thought for a while and said "Vinayak ke adoption ke baad se wo maid gayab hai, bhaag gayi thi wo orphanage se, kuch log kehte hain uski lottery lagi thi"

Swadheenta noted the point and continued "Aapne Virat aur unki wife ko shaadi ka suggestion dia tha?" Mrs Roy nodded and said "Haan, hum log humesha prefer karte hai ki bacho ko Maa aur Baap dono ka pyaar miley aur ye dono saath mein aaye the uske adoption ki baat karne ke liye, isliye wo suggestion inko dia tha."

Jagtap came back with another women who was looking like a beggar and Swadheenta asked Mrs Roy "Kahi ye wahi maid toh nahi hai". Mrs Roy nodded in affirmation but their attention was shifted to Sai when she leaped towards Patralekha and held her hand tightly "Arrey Mrs Chavan, aap kahan bhaagi ja rahi hai, abhi toh bahot baatein baaki hai"

The beggar looked at Patralekha and she tried to hold her throat "Madam mera paisa de do, tum mere ko dhoka deke gayab ho gayi." Judge asked everyone to maintain decorum and said to the maid "Idhar chair pe baith ke bolo jo bolna hai". She settled down and looked at Pakhi "Ye madam mere ko ek bacha di thi, jisse bahot chot lagi thi. Ye boli thi ki 2 din ke liye rakhna hai aur phir ye usse adopt karegi. Iss kaam ke liye mere ko 10 lakh dene ka vaada bhi kia tha, lekin kuch nahi dia. Main naukri bhi chodh di, ye kehke ki paisa milega toh meri life set hai lekin main barbaad ho gayi iske chakkar mein"

Judge looked at Swadheenta for some explanation "Sir, Vinayak Chavan jisse Happy Home Child Orphanage se adopt kia gaya, wo reality mein Sai aur Virat Chavan ka beta hai aur Mrs Chavan ne usse accident spot se kidnap karke orphanage mein drop kar dia tha iss maid ke pass. Phir do din baad aake adoption process start kia, jiske liye Mrs. Roy ne unhe shaadi ka suggestion dia aur wo khushi khushi maan gayi kyunki Mr Chavan ki Bhabhi hote hue bhi unhe humesha se apne ex lover se pyaar tha. Mr Virat Chavan ki shaadi hone ke baad bhi ye kamm nahi hua, jiski wajah se unhone Sai Joshi ke liye bahut problems bhi create ki thi"

Judge disappointedly looked at Virat "Officer Chavan, aap ek IPS officer hai aur aapki presence mein criminal activities ho rahi thi, apko shakk nahi hua?" Virat confidently said "Sir, iss baat ka inke pass koi proof nahi hai aur Vinayak bas mera adopted beta hai. Ye court ko gumrah karne ki bas ek nakaam koshish hai."

Swadheenta gave a file to the judge "Sir, Officer Chavan ki yehi problem hai, pehle inhone criminal activities mein involved Mrs Chavan ki bail karayi, phir inhone apni ex-wife ko force kia case wapas lene ke liye aur abhi bhi sach maan ne ke liye tayaar nahi hai"

Viraat looked at Sai in anger, she has finally destroyed everything by using her lies, but his eyes went wide when the judge said after checking the file "Inn reports se saaf pata chal raha hai ki Vinayak Chavan, Sai Joshi aur Virat Chavan ka beta hai." Patralekha tried to grab the file "Nahi nahi ye jhooth hai, Vinayak ki aayi main hu, usse maine janam dia hai, wo mere Virat ka beta hai." 

Sai chuckled and waved multiple copies of report "Kyu Mrs Chavan, bache ki DNA report bas aap hi kara sakti hai kya? Aapne toh illegally karayi thi, humare pass toh Mr Virat Chavan ki permission thi test karane ke liye".

Sai winked discreetly at Virat and that wink reminded him of the scene from last week when he signed some papers related to Vinayak's treatment at the hospital. But how can he complain when he is not in a position to say anything, the lady who was pretending to give him unconditional support from a long time is just a criminal and he has always trusted her instead of the woman who has always tried to reveal the true face of a criminal.

Advocate Manjrekar stood up from his seat "Sir, iss se ye baat pata chalti hai ki Vinayak aur Savi dono Mr Virat Chavan ke bache hai, unki financial position aur stability dekhte hue dono bacho ki custody unhe hi milni chahiye. Ms Sai Joshi ki income statement file mein attached hai, jismein ek bache ki parvarish bhi thik se nahi ho sakti, do bacho ki kaise hogi?" Virat gave a lopsided smirk to Sai, the job at local hospital will never be able to give a good upbringing to both kids and this will be the biggest deciding factor in this case.
