Before either newt or lela could leave Homestead, the familiar whirring noise of the mechanical Box rung through the entire Glade, signalling that supplies would be sent up with the new Greenie.
"It's the Box." Newt muttered.
Lela scoffed, "yeah, we know." She glared before running out of the hut, and to the centre of the field, where around twenty Gladers were crowded to see the new Greenie arrive.
Of course, newt being his obnoxious self, he pushed his way through to the front of the crowd. Lela decided to go and stand with Clint - the Keeper of the Medjacks.
"It's only been two weeks." She told him, to which he nodded silently.
Lela had been in the Glade for nearly two years now, and never had a Greenie arrived early. The metal cage sped up to the surface, with a brown haired boy sat inside, cowering away from the curious faces peeking at him from above.
"Go get him." Alby told Gally.
He jumped down into the Box, lifting the boy up by the collar of his shirt and throwing him out onto the grass, "Day one, Greenie. Rise and shine."
Several voices spoke, some to other Gladers, and some to the Greenie himself.
"He looks like a slopper to me." "I could use some help in the kitchen." Frypan, the Glader chef chuckled.
The greenie stayed on the floor, moving around at the sudden crowd around him. That was, before he got up to his feet and sprinted across the Glade, not having a destination in mind. His only goal was to get far away, but everybody knew the only place he could go was the maze.
"Hey, we got a runner!" Gally shouted, earning hollers and cheers from the other Gladers.
Everybody stood, watching as the Greenie sped across the field, before tripping on the uneven terrain and rolling to his back before kneeling up.
"Did he just try to run?" Newt asked Alby.
"No, he didn't. He just sprinted across the Glade for no reason." Lela interjected sarcastically. "Of course he did!"
