(FANG)
Fang kept his gaze fixed on the sky most days now. He didn't know when he'd picked up the habit of biting his nails, but they were ragged and torn. His hair was perpetually tangled from him running his hand through it, trying not to think about what it meant that the Flock hadn't found him yet. The area wasn't that big a search area, but they had no idea where he'd ended up. They had to search everything, and if they went into the city.... Well. Things could've gotten...complicated.
A leaf crunched behind him and he jumped, whirling around.
"Sorry," Jayfeather said. He was carrying a large bundle of herbs.
"Do you want help carrying that?"
"I can manage."
"What are you even doing?" he asked, jogging to keep pace with him.
"Laying them out in the sun to dry. Fresh herbs may have a stronger effect, but dry herbs last longer."
"I can't believe you guys can just...heal yourselves. With plants."
"Why? What did you and your Flock use?"
He grimaced. "We basically just toughed it out." He let out a small laugh. "I kinda half-killed myself doing that."
Jayfeather shot him a disapproving glare. "Yeah, that seems like something you would do."
"Hey!"
"You think about others more than you think about yourself. You're gonna end up causing your own death."
Fang felt a spike of fear. "Are you able to see the future?"
"No, mouse-brain. I just know when someone's an idiot who has no regard for personal safety."
"Oh." He glanced back up at the sky.
"Watching the sky won't make them show up faster," Jayfeather muttered.
Fang looked back towards Jayfeather, who was busy laying out the herbs on the rocks. "How'd you know what I was doing?" he asked slowly. You're blind, he silently added.
"I may be blind, but I'm not dumb," Jayfeather snapped. "You're forgetting that I can see people's minds. Not all that clearly anymore, but I can still pick up on impressions of things."
The two were silent for a while.
"They'll come for you."
Fang started.
"If you're really as close as you say, and I don't see how you couldn't, then they'll find some way to you." Jayfeather raised his head, his gaze unnervingly dead on into Fang's eyes. "One way or another."
