"Shotaro, love, you look so handsome." My mother fawned, adjusting my tie.
I was a humble person, but I had to admit when I had looked in the mirror minutes earlier, I wasn't too bad.
My mom took a mountain of pictures, only stopping after what seemed like hours of protest. Then I was off, driving to my last minute date's house.
Of course I had told Sungchan all about it, him merely laughing at my misfortune. He wasn't at all mad that I was going, if anything, he encouraged it. I was going to wring his neck the next time I saw him, (with love, of course).
Since my interactions with the art girl aren't what is important in this story, I will breeze past them to save us both some suffering.
In short, I picked her up, we took some pictures where we both wished for death, she was silent and glued to her phone the entire ride to the school, and I saw her for about 17 seconds before she took off to find her friends.
I didn't mind. I ventured on my own seach to find my friends. Donghyuck was easy to spot, he was in the very middle of the room, dancing by himself to every song that came on.
"Shotaro!" Donghyuck cheered, his dance moves continuing strong. Looking around me, he frowned for a second. "Where's your date?"
I just shrugged, telling him how she had practically ran the moment we'd walked in.
"Her loss." Donghyuck frowned, grabbing my hands. Since I stood there, unsure, my friend was determined to make me have a good time.
We moved, jumped, and laughed to the rhythm, and I quickly forgot all about the ditcher. Soon enough I was comfortable, moving on my own.
"You never told me you were a dancer!" Donghyuck shouted over the music. The atmosphere was so loud I could feel the vibrations in my bones.
A few songs later, Donghyuck spotted his next victim. We moved to the oblivious Jeno, Hyuck grabbing his arm.
"Where's your date?" Donghyuck laughed, seeing a considerable lack of women surrounding our ebony haired friend. "Are us three just the biggest losers?"
"Hey, speak for yourself. I wanted to come alone." Jeno spoke, but I could barely hear his voice over the overrated song that was then playing.
Despite his confident words, I saw Jeno occassionally glance around the room whenever Donghyuck wasn't looking. He seemed intent to find someone, and only us two knew who.
"Well come on then. We can have a good time, we don't need dates." Donghyuck was determined. Resuming his moves, my friend entered his own world.
Moving closer to Jeno, I whispered so only he could hear me, no eavesdroppers. "Where's your man?"
Shrugging, Jeno just smiled. I could tell he already regretted letting me in on his secret. "Where's yours?"
"Seems we're both miserable." I laughed, holding my hand out. Jeno shook it in defeat, a smile on his face as he realized our predicament.
