The sound of the bell over the café door has me peering up. It being almost 11P.M. on a Wednesday makes me wonder who would want to come to a book themed coffee shop on a Wednesday. most people are asleep, getting ready for the long day that's coming their way.
As I look up, peering over the surgical textbook in my hands, I see a woman, maybe early-mid twenties, wearing a professional light blue button up shirt. Dragging my eyes down I see that shirt is paired with a black pencil shirt and... converse?
Iconic choice. Most woman in books and TV shows and movies wear stilettos to accentuate their long legs, but this? This is some girl boss energy right there.
I watch as she sits down and takes in her environment. I watch as she smiles at the book shelf with the sliding ladder. I watch as the server goes over and takes her order. I watch as she gives a wide smiles and I watch and I see the most adorable dimples and white smile that reaches her eyes going.
Out of the corner of my eye I see an older gentleman looking over at me. I look in his direction and he gives me a look, a 'what are you doing?' look. My eyes widen and my focus goes back to my textbook. I feel my cheeks flame hot as I realise I got caught staring at an obviously attractive woman.
As attractive as she is, I have a feeling that I know her. I recognise her face but I don't know where from.
I try and concentrate on my book but my brain keeps going to the woman sat on the other side of the Café. I look up one more time and my eyes instantly lock onto her face. Not just her faced but her eyes; the most blueish, greyish eyes ever. Like, they're both blue and grey at the same time. Like it's Summer and rain is on its way. I know those eyes from somewhere and it nags at me that I don't know where from. I adjust the rounded glasses on my nose as I close my eyes, trying to cast my memory back to see where I've seen her before. My gaze goes back down to my textbook but I can't concentrate: I have to introduce myself to her. I need to know where I know her from. I go to stand up, I straighten my jeans out and adjust the collar on my plain white polo and make my way over to her. I get two steps in before her phone goes off, she puts her laptop on the table, take out her phone to see who it is and eye rolls. She takes a big sip from her coffee cup before answering the phone and I can feel myself turning around and sitting back in my seat. I slouch down into my chair and cover my face with my book.
Maybe I won't introduce myself right now.
"Ms. Smith speaking." She says into the phone, her voice sounding a little less welcoming. Okay so her last name is Smith and she said it all business like so I have that going for me but it doesn't ring a bell still.
She pauses for a seconds before saying, "and what's that, Mrs. Stevenson?" Her voice sounds bitter.
Oooo, Mrs. Stevenson, what have you done?
I continue to focus my attention on my textbook, listening in to see when she hangs up to go and introduce myself.
