CHAPTER 1 - Mission: Earth

I threw the bagpack on my back which was placed beside the scroll. I sighed. Polia has always assigned me

challenging missions. By the way, I am Tulia, age 17, according to the land of Gnomes, also known as Gnomese. I have beautiful purple and white butterfly wings on my back. I fly when I have to travel long distances to accomplish my mission.

"Penelope, are you attending the Gnome Concert?" I asked my neighbour with a grin across my face. I was one who would attend every concert in town. Penelope was the opposite. She was a cool and composed gnome, always helping with the chores at home. Sometimes I wonder how we became friends in the first place. She shrugged a reply, "I... I guess so."

"Okay, could you pass me my satchel behind you?" I shouted across the spacious mushroom hut I live in. I was in the kitchen, preparing a potion with the ingredients for the ammunition.

Penelope expertly threw it to me. I caught it with my right hand. The scroll must not be seen. I work for Polia undercover for the safety of Gnomese. Nobody must get their hands on the private and confidential scroll. Even Penelope.

I bade goodbye to my neighbours, my parents, as well as my two sisters and flew down to Earth.

"Is... Is this really Earth?" I muttered to myself when I landed on a rooftop. Earth was majestic. I tucked my wings safely in my thick clothing. I was dressed in common clothes worn by people on Earth.

First, I went to a far-off village to rent a room for 4 days. I needed some rest after the long journey. During the next morning, I woke up bright and early to the sound of roosters clucking at dawn. It was fascinating.

I went to different stalls, trying out the long line of clothes and delicious food I couldn't find in Gnomese. How I wish I could stay here forever. The cheese omelette was my favourite.

After that, I saw some yellow, sponge cakes with strawberry icing sugar on top at a stall. The strong aroma of the cake wafted through the air. "This is strange," I thought to myself. "These sponge cakes..." I muttered softly. What aroused my suspicion was a middle-aged man emerging from the little dark purple curtain from behind the winding staircase which lead to the coffee shop. My eye twitched and I knew something was wrong.
