When I hear the sirens and see the lights

What do I see as I watch them fly by.

I see my sister in her car.

Bruised and scared. Ringing in her ears.

I see my father, disoriented, and dazed.

Trying to comprehend. What just happened.

I see my uncle. Stuck and tears streaming down his face.

Wondering if this is the end.

I see my brother. 8 years old.

Bleeding and crying. Glass in his hands.

I see my mom. In the back of an ambulance.

Wondering if she's going to be alright.

I see my friend driving with his lights and sirens on.

Rushing to save a life. Doing all that he can.

I see my grandfather. Slamming on his breaks.

Leaving his squad car not believing what he sees.

He's in the pond pulling a man free.

I see my coworkers. Risking their lives.

There's to much smoke, all they can hear is screams.

I see them running into burning buildings.

Into gun fire. Not knowing what's on the other end.

I see them begging and pleading.

Watching as they jump from the ledge.

I see the late nights. Praying that everything will be alright.

These are the things that I see.

When I hear the sirens and see the lights.
