(This story is in the point of view of future koneko talking about her past)

When I was young I didn't live in Japan, I lived in a area with many native Spanish speakers, Mexico. Pátzcuaro, a lake town, it was beautiful from what I remember, my papa moved their and he met my mom. Then they had adorable koneko. My papa is Japanese and he thought the name was delightful, Kitten is the English translation. He loved little kitty's. My mom wasn't so happy with the name, she shamed me for it.

As I grew it was obvious that she didn't like me, I didn't like her either. I refused to call her what she wanted me to. The shamed me for making the other gossip about our "broken family" as she and many others called it. When my papa went to work I stayed with her. She often didn't feed me when he left, my body got weak, my papa noticed and shamed her for it. He was disgusted that she would neglect her young baby, He left me at a family friends house when he left for work. I was 2 or 3 and I couldn't even be around my own mother because she wouldn't care for me because I was different than her. Those family friends were a better mother than she ever was. I grew up with a little girl named raku, My best friend. My papa met a man in college who he became very good friends with. That man then had a child, raku. A loud but bubbly girl, she was creative and fun. I grew up eating mushed up fruit and veggies with her and playing imagination and so much more. I was always excited to see her , she was and always will be my bestest friend.

When I turned 4 I used to run in the grass and roll in it with raku, we danced and played like any toddler did. We spinned in our dresses and danced to music. I now had my own room at rakus house seeing as my mother never wanted me home, and shamed me when I did come home. She called me vile things. Most of I don't remember, my young brain either forgot or blocked them out so I wouldn't know. This one time raku slammed into the side of a dresser and her nose started to bleed, she cried and cried. I didn't know what to do, I grabbed a hand towel and pressed it onto her face. It was a raku sitting on the floor tears running down her face and me trying to stop the bleeding with a hand rag very confused. That is a very fond memory of mine but it's one of my favorites, it showed that I had a strong bond towards raku fome the start. That's what makes out friendship the best.
