Disclaimer : I don't own GS/GSD or any of the characters. I love Asucaga too much to make them fall apart.

It was a little past midnight when she finally reached the border. She felt so nervous. It was her first time to see the border with her own eyes. The eastern border was kinda special, there were no guards around the borders. Instead of guards, the eastern had some kind of magical mist surrounding the border. The magical mist shaped like a very tall gate. Even though it was just a mist, no one really dared to pass the fog carelessly. The magical mist had affected differently towards people. Most of them would feel suffocated, some of them would have acute headaches, nausea and some other felt disseminated, however the most terrifying of all was death. They could never predict what kind of effect the mist would affect them.

Foreigners who wanted to reside in the east like Stellar, had to give notice six months before they arrived in the east. This was another reason why the east was so conservative. Only the south who wanted to have a close diplomatic relationship with the east. The other countries felt that having a strong relationship with the east is quite bothersome and too complicated.

The magical fog will be lifted only twice a year by the king or the crown prince. Only the royal family had immunity against the fog and only them who could lift up the fog. The chosen knight also could lift up the fog, but the king had to transfer his power first to him. The unnatural power to lift the fog only lasts for two years. After two years the king had to do the transfer thing again. Uzumi found it quite bothersome. So, in his reign, he never picked anyone to be the chosen knight.

Cagalli didn't know if she had the natural ability to lift the fog or not, but since Kira could do it, she took her chances. She had read much about the fog, but still she wasn't really sure, she was very nervous but at least she would try. Cagalli took off from her horse. She looked at the mist in front of her, holding her breath, she tried to reach about something in the midst of the fog. She closed her eyes, tried to feel the air in front of her. A strained of delicate thread grazed her fingertips. She tried to grab it, but it was not easy. She tried to concentrate more and then finally she could grab it. She pulled the thread and the fog was gone gradually. She was successful, she could do it too.

She realized she didn't have much time and immediately crossed the border. After she passed the mist, she turned to a squat position, she reached for the ground. Looking for the same thing, the delicate thread that was invincible for her eyes, she could feel it but she couldn't see it. After she found it, she pulled it again and the fog emerged and surrounded the borders again. She felt so relieved. She finally crossed the border, now she was outside the east. Even if she was immune to the fog, the horse is not. That was why she had to lift up the fog first.

After a few minutes, she decided to stop, she needed to drink. More importantly Rouge would be so tired. She tried to find the nearest river. The path she was taking was not that hard. Stellar said that she just had to follow the pathway inside the pinus woods that already had been established years ago. When she reached the pinus woods, there was a sign for direction. If she turned left, it would lead to the South, right to the North and straight to the West. So she kept straight. Stellar said after she crossed the border, she would find a clear river not too far from the border. After that she just had to follow the path beside the river, it would lead straight to the western kingdom.

So now, she already found the river, but still she couldn't rest comfortably until she reached the western kingdom. So, after she had a drink, she took Rouge to drink as much as possible. She tied Rouge's strap on a tree near the river and she looked for any food she could give to Rouge.

Found some grass, she took it to the mare. 'She must be very hungry.' Cagalli looked at Rouge which ate rashly. Rouge was definitely starving.

"I'm sorry Rouge, but we can't stay here too long. We need to go again."
