Molie (pov)

August 1985

A month after the mall burned down and I lost my job to said fire, mom wanted me to look for another one. I was looking at working at Family Video but then I saw Keith was working there and was a manager there, hard pass on there. I went across the street to the local music store, a safe haven for me essentially.

I've practically buried myself in music and just hanging out with Eddie for the past month. I told him the truth about where I was, I could tell he was upset but didn't outright scold me for lying to him. And then when I told him about Steve's feelings for me, he was taken aback. And there was a slight hint of jealousy on his face. It was the first thing that made me truly smile in weeks.

We made a deal to tell each other the truth from now on, no matter how bad it was gonna be for the other person. I'm gonna stick with it until the day we both die.

I opened the door and the bell rang indicating there was a customer in the store. I was greeted by a friendly voice, a woman. She introduced herself, her name was Miranda. I asked if she was hiring and she said she was. Bless anything and everything above! I got handed an application form.

When she finished going over it, she only had one question for me. "What's your top three genres?"

"I like listening to everything, but I don't have a set top three for genres," I replied.

"Hmm, interesting. Do you have any favorite artists or bands?"

"Oh, thats easy; Def Leppard, Vixen, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Kate Bush, Tears For Fears, Motley Crue, Metall-"

"Okay, I get it. You really enjoy music. Right so, if I hire you on the spot could you work this weekend? I can have Amy show you how everything goes around here tomorrow."

"Oh, yes I can!"

"Great, we'll see you tomorrow, ten a.m. sharp."

I brought myself back outside. I was so happy to have a new job where I could essentially listen to music all day.

Nothing could ruin my good mood unless their name is Steve Harrington. I still haven't been able to talk to him directly since that night. Was it bad for me to hold a grudge this long? Probably but I'm a Capricorn, we're a stubborn bunch.

We locked eyes in the parking lot for the store I was just in. it was the first time we held eye contact, it was awkward, well for me at least.

"Hey Molls. Uh, what're you up to," he asked.

"Well, I just got a job there," I answered pointing back at the store.

"Nice. Do you think they're taking more people? I really need a job, my dad's breaking my back for one."

"Maybe. It doesn't hurt to go in and ask."

"Right, uh, hey, listen, would you mind waiting out here? I really wanna talk to you about something."

"Uh, yeah, I guess I could wait."

With that, I leaned on his car to wait. Do I want to talk to Steve? Not particularly. Do I need to talk to him? Yes.

He was only in the store for ten minutes. Once he was outside he told me that Miranda was only looking for one more person to hire and surprisingly enough it was me.

"And to think you'd charm your way into that job, disappointing really."

"Haha, so funny," he said, starting the car and driving off.

I didn't have a clue as to where he was taking me. I just had to trust him on this. The ride was as silent as I'd expect it to be, but it didn't get too awkward thankfully. I only realized where we were going when I recognized the public soccer fields. This was the place where I told him my most kept secret.
