Based on the drama 'Under The Queen's Umbrella'
This is a little reimagined one shot book of scenes set either inside the drama's timeline or in the future.
Author's note :
'Under The Queen's Umbrella' characters do...
'Appamama, eomamama, please forgive our tardiness. Binggung and I had something important to discuss about hence we arrived a bit late from our promised time.'
The king and queen both dismiss and reassure the royal couple that it was fine. After a few more greetings and handing Hodong gun their gift for his birthday, the crown prince and princess both sat at their spots in the head table (they are basically senior members of the family due to their position).
Enjoying the afternoon with family, the couple enjoyed some nice conversation with the king and the princes. It was mostly the usual talks about politics and the serious stuff but then the conversations suddenly change into CheongHa's pregnancy.
'Once binggung mama gives birth, do you think the baby should look like hyungnim or her ?'
Grand Prince Muan was as expected the person who asked this question, being the joker and the most unserious one of the princes, he just liked to tease his elder brother. Joining in on the fun, Grand Prince Ilyeong replies with a mischievous voice.
'Eiiii, the baby should look like binggung then. Having the same face as our seja jeoha is not really good regardless if the baby's a boy or a girl.'
Kang didn't even pay attention to his brothers, all he did was hold his wife's hands under the table while sipping his tea and minding his own business. Catching on though, CheongHa smiles and interjects into the conversation with her sweet voice.
'Waeyo?.... I personally would like nothing more for the baby to look like our seja jeoha. His handsome, smart and kind, hence it is only right that our child should take after him.'
All this time, the king and queen plus the concubines all smile at the sweetness that just radiated off from the young couple. You could feel the fresh air on them as they gazed at each other and exchange heart eyes whenever they crossed eyes.
Most of the princes were perplexed and fake retching at the public display of affection between the crown prince and princess but being the sassy one yet again, Grand Prince Muan's comment literally makes everyone laugh and giggle simultaneously.
'That's because your blinded by love binggung mama...'
As the conversations between the princes, the king, the queen, the concubines and his wife blur into the background. Yi Kang sat beside his wife the whole time adoring her and observing all her actions and smiles.
He thought about a lot of things... he knew and was sure that he had fell for her long ago, his feelings were always there and it broke his heart that he had once even left her during their supposed first night together after the wedding. If only it could be fixed and he could go back in time....he would have done it in a heartbeat.
The vision of her running towards him in ManWol Island and the recurring visions of their precious little memories from that time. Now that he thought about it.... he had already been under her spell even then.
The bright and energetic young woman who entered his life like a lightning. The one girl whom he thought wouldn't at all be his type. The one hated and avoided by matchmakers, the one woman who had the perfect wit and playfulness.... in the end fitted him the most.
She may have fell for him first but who would've thought that he would ended up falling harder for her in the end.
It was no doubt that Yi Kang and Yoon CheongHa were soulmates and that was it.... they were meant for each other since their first meeting in the medicine shop and soulmates would always be interconnected with each other no matter how much time would past.
As the whole family basked under the bright but cool afternoon air, SeongNam smiled in contentment and pure happiness.
He wouldn't change anything in the world for this life. He was married to the woman he loves and they were expecting a baby soon. He was the crown prince now and the royal court was the most peaceful that it could ever be in years.
The dark days were over and the peaceful and happy days were now starting, he could only hope that it would be like this forever but just in case problems were to arise again, he wasn't scared anymore. Because now.... he had someone to hold his hand and embrace him whenever he needed it.... he had his wife, his love... his heart.
That was the beauty of this story... their slow burn but heart fluttering developing feelings at first but now a sincere and true love that's sure to last for lifetimes to come.
