One of the most common things that happens in every anime is seeing a character who is downright hated by just about everyone. And I'm sad to say that "Komi Can't Communicate" definitely has one of those characters. Yamai Ren.

Why does she get so much hatred? Well... let's just say that she makes Mineta look more likeable. She's a combo of a yandere and a pervert, particularly for Komi. She only cares about having perverted fantasies about Komi, which is the total opposite of what Komi is really like. On top of that, she's very rude and terrible to Tadano due to being jealous of his friendship with Komi.
At one point, Yamai ended up kidnapping Tadano and threatened to bury him in the heart of a mountain! Yeah, that's one of the reasons why she is so despised!
When Komi found out that Yamai had kidnapped Tadano, spoken trash about, and even threatened to kill him, she became angry! It may not look like it at first, but you can probably see the anger if you look closely. While Yamai begged for Komi to be her friend and told her that she did all of that stuff to Tadano for her sake, Komi responded with "I will decide my friends."
The next day is where this scene takes place. Komi explains to Tadano with her notebook that she has doubts about her friendship with him. She even asks if being friends with him is a good idea since she blames herself for him almost getting hurt. But Tadano reassures her that he doesn't want their friendship to end and uses the same words she used on Yamai: "I will decide my friends."
Even if you hate Yamai for what she did to Tadano, you can't deny one thing: She ended up strengthening the friendship between Tadano and Komi. This scene shows just how powerful their friendship is and makes me want to see even more moments between them. Lucky for you, we have more cute moments like this to see!
