Regulus watched with a content smile as Y/N ran down to the lake, kicking her shoes and socks off on the way. He picked up her discarded items and followed her down, placing them next to him as he sat down.
He knew she really was the love of her life, which he thought was ironic considering he used to not believe in love. How could he if his parents be the only example of love he had? The constant fighting, hostile glances, and aggressive tones. He grew up thinking love didn't exist. If what his parents had was supposed to be love, he didn't want it. He was comfortable with the idea of being alone for the rest of his life, he thought it'd be better than having love.
"Reg! Come join me!" He saw Y/N walk to him with her hand held out to him. He smiled and took off his shoes and socks before standing up and walking back to the water with her. A gasp left his lips once his feet touched the water, "It's cold." Y/N laughed, "It feels so nice, doesn't it?"
Regulus tried his hardest to school his expression into a frown while he shook his head. The girl next to him just laughed harder and rolled her eyes, kicking water up at him before she ran a bit away from him, making him chase her.
Sure maybe he still thought that love didn't really last forever. Maybe he thought that finding a way to survive alone was easier than being with another. But one thing he knew for sure was that Y/N was the only exception.
