"You don't understand. For too long have I played the losing side of another man's twisted game. For too long have I fallen victim to a well rehearsed script that always ended with me on my knees, begging for mercy that fell on deaf ears. I grew tired of playing a game I couldn't win," Louis stated quietly, watching as Phillip carefully moved his castle. "So I changed the game and made it my own. It cost me my soul but in the end, it was worth it, if only to end my suffering. I can never be hurt by the words of another, can never fall victim to a game designed to cause me pain. Because the game is mine and you, dear hero, are playing it, whether you realize it or not."

Louis smiled but it didn't reach his eyes that were as cold and emotionless as always, unnerving Phillip who tried not to show it though he wasn't sure he succeeded when the smile only grew, a deranged thing that wasn't at all supposed to look friendly. The villain never broke eye contact as he moved his knight across the board.

"Checkmate."
