—— IRIS HAD DRIED HERSELF OFF after her small dip in the pool, getting dressed up in a simple black dress before heading off to dinner at exactly eight o’clock. All eight of them met up on the way, Birdie looping her arm in Iris’ and gaining a glare from Whiskey, who responded by getting Duke to wrap his arm around her. Iris rolled her eyes, ignoring the girl’s petty behavior and joined in on the lively conversation with Birdie and Peg. After a couple hours of drowning in her own misery, she supposed she had to be sociable and start deciding on new ways to live.

“Did you know that you’re in a lot more danger of being bit by a New Yorker than a shark?” Birdie asked, skipping her way down the hallway towards the main room of Miles’ mansion. Iris gave her a raised eyebrow, checking round with Peg, who only shrugged. She was pretty much used to this by now. “It’s true! Look it up. You should invest in some health insurance, missy.”

“I have,” Iris said slowly, looking towards Birdie with concern. “Have you not?”

“Eh. It’s a scam,” Birdie waved a flippant hand.

Iris turned back to Peg with a shocked expression, but the assistant really had nothing to say on the matter, only shrugging once again. “I’ve told her to get some.”
