No wonder James punched Severus when he called Remus and Sirius 'privileged'.

Sirius was disowned by his own family. He was tortured by them and grew up in an isolated world where it took him quite a long time to adapt to the atmosphere of hogwarts.

Remus had to deal with becoming a hideous monster once a month. The pain and sadness of worrying if he would injure his friends. All of the scars that he had.

James didn't care that he had detention.
