Penelope POV.

I wake up to the loud ringing of my alarm. Groggily, I hit it to make it stop and slowly got out of bed. I made my bed then headed to the bathroom.
I see my reflection and oh my god.... I look like I just ran through the woods with a bear chasing me! I brushed my hair and lightly splashed my face with cold water to wake me up. I then leave the bathroom to go back to my room. I go to my wardrobe and look for my newly tailored school uniform, once I found it I put it on. As I looked for any flaws of the fabrics, I catch a glimpse of the time and realize I should start heading to school.
I never saw Matilda before I left..

I make it to school on time, and as I make it to the gate I see Matilda walk through it so I did that little awkward walk-half-run thing..

"Hi Matilda! I didn't see you this morning, where were you?" I asked her.

"Oh.. uh I just wanted to see Miss Phelps..! Before school started." She replied, pausing for a second.

But before I could respond we stopped in front of a huge statue that has 'No Snivelling' engraved in it. I then looked beside me and saw another little girl but before I could say anything, Matilda beat me to it,

"Is it your first day too?" She questioned.

"Yeah. I'm not worried, but I think Isaac might be." The little girl responded.

"What if we all went in together?" I asked.

"Yes! That way me and Isaac can look after you both if anything, y'know!" The little girl replied, which I have just found out her name is Lavender!

Matilda was about to say something but before she could get a word out, we heard the sound of gates slamming. Looking behind us I see teachers closing and locking the gate we entered just a few minutes ago.

As we slowly made our way to the second gate, we see kids crowding around behind it. 'What is this about?' I question in my head, but before I could verbally ask my question, I was interrupted by a voice.

"Oi! New kids!"

We all turned around to see a girl in a red beret with a lollipop talking to us.

"So you think you're able, to survive this mess by being a prince or a princess, you will soon see, there's no escaping tragedy. And even, if you put in heaps of effort, you're just wasting energy, 'cause your life as you know it is ancient history..." She sang.
I crossed my arms and raised an eyebrow, unamused at this sudden confrontation.
She just smirks back and I swear I saw her wink, but before I could react anymore, we all hear the slamming of the gate behind us.
Gasping at the sudden loudness, we all turned around. We see kids against the bars as they sing,

"I have suffered in this Jail, I've been trapped inside this cage for ages! This living 'ell. But if I try I can remember, back before my life had ended, before my happy days were over, before I first heard the pealing of the bell.."

"Like you, I was curious." "So innocent I asked a thousand questions, but unless you want to suffer listen up and I will teach you, a thing or two."
About 8 kids my age open the gate and point for us to get in, so we do.
They started practically skipping towards us singing, so we had to walk backwards while listening.
"You listen here, my dear. You'll be punished so severely if you step out of line and if you cry it will be double, you should stay out of trouble and remember to be extremely careful."
We followed them to the opening of the huge school.
"Why?" Lavender asked.
"Why?" They all chorused together.
"Why? Did you hear what we said?" One of the girls ask.
She then takes off Matilda's hat, and Lavender did it herself. Me personally, I didn't even know we had hats..
"Just you wait for Phys-Ed!" They sang together, once again.
"What's phys-ed?" Matilda questioned.
"Physical Education, the trunchbulls speciality." That one girl says, mysteriously.
