Dan walked slowly, he was dragging his feet. Exhausted and avoiding going home, trying to conjure any excuse to give his father as to why he was home so late. He was pulled from his thoughts when he heard soft foot steps and heavy breath ahead of him. He looked up and saw a small figure. A boy from his school. His petite frame was hunched over tiredly, his pale unexpressive face covered in shadows, his unruly blonde hair looked nearly ghastly in the pale light of the moon. His slightly oversized suit was crumbled and dirty, there was a dark stain marking his chest that Daniel couldn't place.
It took Dan a moment before speaking, "Hey!" He said slightly weak. The small boy darted this gaze toward Dan, his round glasses lighting up as he does, looking like large inhuman eyes. There was much about that boy that seemed inhuman. "You're that new kid... Herbert, right?" Dan's tone came off a little harsh, but he couldn't really care. The boy had frightened him.
The freakish child straightened his back and adjusted his glasses. "Oh," he said in is soft shakey voice. "Yes." He leaned against something, a shovel. "Why the hell does he have a shovel?" Dan thought, he studied the tool, it was almost the size of the child. It, like his shirt, was dirty, but Dan pressumed now that both marks were just soil.
They stared at each other for an unbearable moment. Dan taking in every detail he could of Herbert. Eventually the strange little creature continued on his way silently. Without even a wave. He dragged the shovel behind him as he went.Dan stood frozen for a moment. Before attempting to shake the thoughts of that ghastly little creature from his mind, and continuing home.
