Brooklyn Bella Gatina

It's the Fourth of July, one of my least favorite days of the year. It's the day my mom left. It has been exactly two years since that day. Her leaving wasn't exactly a surprise, it was her staying gone that was. We knew she was gone for good because she took all her stuff. It was as if she was never around in the first place. She took her clothes, family phots even the pictures with just her in them were gone as well.

She wanted to erase herself from our lives and I couldn't blame her. Dad wasn't in the best shape. His drinking was getting worse and that night it was bad and their fighting just seemed
neverending. I don't think any of us could've made her stay. She had made up her mind. I remember Grayson begging for her to put stuff down, Daniel was holding me as I cried. I didn't understand her rash decision but I now I guess I kinda do. Get out while you can I guess even if that means leaving your children behind.

I hate looking back on that day and truly tried to avoid doing so but something about today, the 2nd anniversary of it, felt eerie. It was almost as if she were a ghost and her presence still roams the halls of this house. Part of me thinks she might come back to us and we could be 'one big happy family' but i know deep down that is not true what so ever.

I hurriedly put on my sandals as I ran down the stairs. Grayson stood down there waiting for me. We were heading off to the Scott's for their annual Fourth of July celebration. This would be the first year Daniel wasn't going with us. He decided he would stay home and take care of dad in some form. We needed someone here during holidays like this but especially on this day.He might be our father but he was the one who needed a babysitter not us.

"You ready to go, sis?" Grayson peered up at me. I nodded as I glided down the stairs. I waved by to Daniel as Grayson and I walked out the front door. I was going to try my best to enjoy the day and spend time reconnecting with the people who mean the most to me. The drive to the the Scott's beach house wasn't long at all and soon enough we were pulling into the driveway of their home. Lydia and Olivia were waiting out front for us. I jumped out of the car quickly and walked up the stairs towards my two best friends.

"Hey girls, ready to party?" I did a little twirl as they both shook their heads laughing.

"Hey Brookie. Grayson," Olivia smiled at me but quickly became serious staring at my brother. Grayson just nodded. I shrugged it off. Olivia could be weird at times. Just then I could hear a voice I somewhat dreaded.

"You didn't tell me the whole trio would be here." Easton Keller peered down from the deck at all three of us. I sighed as Nick and Lance appeared next to him. I guess I should've figured they'd all be here. Lydia looked at me with a sorry look and I simply smiled.
