ᴀɴᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴅᴀʏ had rolled around of doing seemingly nothing, but then again, just surviving was everything. tatum woke up earlier to go fetch the laundry from the day before off the clothes line and it seemed a certain moody-sheriff's-hat-wearing-boy had the same idea.

the sun was rising slowly, beautifully behind the wired walls, and the monsters and the many many trees. tatum stopped her determined stride and stood looking out on the view for a moment, ignoring the groans or the very reason she couldn't be watching this with her entire family from the comfort of their house.

"tatum", she whipped her head around to see carl's entire front soaked with a bucket of what once was probably water, tipped over on the floor behind him.

she giggled a little and covered her mouth before speaking, "what did you do??"

"you're doing the laundry from now on, this is dumb" he insisted angrily, looking down at the damage he did to himself.

"i'm not doing everyone's laundry alone just because you knocked over a bucket of soapy water on yourself" she scoffed crossing her arms with amusement. he dead panned, "it was the dirty water. don't laugh."

tatum's giggle could probably have been heard throughout the entire prison as carl shook his head in disappointment before grabbing the soapy water bucket and throwing it all on her.

she stopped dead in her tracks and her jaw hung open as she looked up at him, who for the first time ever had a little grin on his face.

she couldn't even be mad, he was smiling. even if it was only a small smile she'd never seen anything of the sort from him, and he noticed that she was staring for that fact. carl's face dropped again, his resting face wasn't really a scowl but it wasn't anything optimistic looking either.

tatum chose to ignore it and just laughed a little again, "you suck"

the two then walked over to the field guessing the sun would easily dry them and they couldn't very well go inside without having done their only job for the morning so far.

the sun was still rising and tatum smiled as they sat, she clung to her knees as she gazed up at the colours slowly shifting. even when the modern world ends, the raw earth still prevails. nature had always been a place the girl preferred, amongst the trees or running into the ocean, she was happiest absorbing what the earth had to offer.

still, she was happy to be outside but only sometimes. only when she had the given choice. now she almost hated sleeping in the woods, it was just overrun by the monsters - or as they call them at the prison - walkers.
