Ney'ite felt the wind brushing against her skin, forcing her hair back, she crouched lower on her ikran, Ingo, then dove down into the forest, a smile fuelled from excitement plastered on her face.
The leaves rustled as Ingo made her landing on a tree branch, and Ney'ite slid off of her back, stroking her ikran's neck and humming under her breath.
The light from the setting sun shone through the canopy onto her striped blue skin, scattering pretty patterns across it.
"Ite."
Ney'ite turned at the voice, looking up at her father stood before her.
Her content smile melted from her lips, and she gently pressed her hand against Ingo, indicating for her ikran to leave. "Yes, Father?"
His face was cold and expressionless, his jaw clenched. "The Chief wants to see you, it's about your eyes."
Ney'ite's eyes had mysteriously changed colour only a few days before. She'd woken up, gone to meet her friend and they pointed it out with a horrified expression. Her once amber yellow eyes had turned to a deep, captivating purple.
The trouble was that no one knew why.
She'd gone to see the head of her clan and they said it was unheard of. No Na'vi had ever had eyes that mysteriously changed colour over night.
One of the hunters said she'd been cursed by the Sky People, this theory didn't travel far but people in her tribe still gave her strange looks, or even actively avoided her.
It was why she was out flying that day, to avoid her tribe, and her Dad.
"You must come now, we don't leave the clan waiting."
He started walking down the tree branch as Ney'ite stumbled after him. "Clan? What do you mean?"
Her Dad hopped down to a lower branch and she followed suite. "You will see ma Ite, enough with the questions."
Ney'ite rolled her eyes, sliding down a sloped part of the tree.
When they reached their clan's soul tree, the night had just begun; the stars were beginning to appear in the sky, and the natural glow of the forest illuminated their surroundings.
Ney'ite felt her heart tighten when she saw nearly the whole of her tribe standing around the soul tree, all looking at her.
"Father, what's happening?" She murmured, holding herself back.
He clasped her shoulder, pushing her forward through the Na'vi to where their clan leaders were stood at the base of the tree.
The Chief nodded to her as she looked up at him in confusion. "Ney'ite te Tírey Mayko'ite." His voice boomed across the group, Ney'ite's bewilderment only deepened. "There has been a message from Eywa, for you."
Gasps and murmurs scattered across the clan, Ney'ite felt her breath catch in her throat.
The chief beckoned for her to stand up with him, he then placed a hand on her shoulder, presenting her to the clan. "You, my child, have been summoned by our Goddess. You have a destiny to fulfill. You have the eyes of Eywa."
Ney'ite gaped, her hand slowly reaching up to her eye, was it why they'd changed colour? Eywa?
"What?" She questioned, her eyes darting to the soul tree helplessly, "What destiny? I'm only 15!"
