Chapter 2

"Poe, wait!"

Poe was rushing out of the building to head home, but turned around when he heard his teacher calling after him.

"Do you need something?" Poe asked quietly.

"I just wanted to give you this. I missed your birthday last week because I was out and I felt bad and I still wanted to get you something."

"Thank you, but you didn't have to."

"It's fine. Besides, I have a feeling that.... I'm the only one who remembered."

Poe looked away and his teacher smiled at him gently.

"Hey, don't worry. Someday, you'll find people who'd rather give up their lives than forget something like this. I guarantee it."

Poe nodded and said he had to leave.

"Oh, and Poe?"

"Hm?"

"Don't forget to shower."

Poe nodded and walked out the door.

As he walked the long distance to his house, he thought to himself about the gift he'd gotten.

And then he thought about how all this had started.

"Edgar, come on! Let's go!"

"A-already?"

"Yes! I don't want to be here anymore!"

"Ok...."

Poe walked beside his friend quietly as she ranted about her older brother's new girlfriend.

"And she has the cutest sweater too! I wanna be her so bad~"

"You.... Want to date your brother?" Poe asked.

"I'm not sure."

"You're supposed to say no to something like that."

"What can I say? My brother's kinda hot."

"You're so weird."

"Not as weird as you."

After talking a bit more, they split up at the crossroads.

"Bye, Edgar."

"Bye Breanna. Tell your mother I said hello."

"Will do!"

That day, Breanna had gone home to see a new cat she'd gotten, and she forgot all about what Poe asked her to do for him.

But he was fine with it. The cat was cute anyway.

"Edgar, this is Schnukkums!"

"Hi Schnukkums."

Putting the cat in front of her face, she spoke in a deeper voice than normal, saying, "Hi there, Breanna's best friend. What's your name?"

"My name is Edgar."

"Nice to meet you Edgar. My name is Schnukkums and I'm a galaxy cat!"

"What's a galaxy cat?"

"A cat who travels the galaxy in search of the purrfect friend."

"Oh, how nice."

"Do you wanna be friends Edgar?"

"Sure."

"Hooray!"

Poe brushed those thoughts away and continued on with his day.

Suddenly, he bumped into someone who was running around.

"Sorry, sir!" The girl said.

Poe helped her pick up her items. She thanked him and ran off towards the theater.

Great, now he felt weird. Wonderful.
