The Dragon scale

Emmy and Max's mother and father just died leaving the house to both of them. Max takes a look around his old room as Emmy walks into their old playroom.

"Max, come here," says Emmy a few rooms over.

"Yeah, what's up Emmy?" Max says as he peers inside the play room.

"Do you remember this wallpaper?" Emmy asks.

"Oh yeah! I remember! It still looks the same." Max says laughing.

"What was so special about this wallpaper again?" Emmy runs her hands along the wall, touching every dragon.

"I don't remember, maybe nothing at all, we probably created a fantasy world to play in so we could have time fly by faster." Max says sitting down in front of the windowsill.

Max then notices a crack,showing a hidden compartment.

"Hey Emmy, look! I think I found something." Max says enthusiastically.

Emmy walks over and sits besides Max and tried to pull the drawer out.

"It's stuck max, can you help me?"

Max grabs hold of the other side and starts to pull with Emmy.

"Why is this drawer so hard to open, and does this feel like déjà vu?" Max wonders before Both Max and Emmy tumble backwards, and the drawer is open.

"Max, look! It's the same box as when we were kids." Emmy picks up the box and shows Max the contents.

"Wow, it's the scale! But the words are smudged, what do we do Emmy?" Max whimpers while holding the scale in his hand.

"Umm maybe we can clean it? Or look it up online?" Says Emmy hesitantly.

Max goes to the kitchen to retrieve the cleaning solution, and comes back with the bottle and a rag. He sprays the solution on to the words and wipes. Most of the words are clear but still some are too smudged to read.

"Awwww, some of it is still smudged." Max whines.

"It says I wish I wish with ____ my _____, to fly with _______ in a ______ a _____."
Emmy says out loud to Max.

"Emmy do you remember the Chant?" Max asks hopefully?

"..........Max, if I remembered, we wouldn't be sitting here trying so hard to remember......we would already be there, in dragon land." Emmy says a little frustrated.

".......right,sorry."

Both keep trying to clean the smudged but they just wouldn't come off. Emmy and Max both sat there for a few minutes before Emmy abruptly sits up and smiles.

"Max, I remember I wrote it down on a piece of paper before I went to High school. Now if Only I could remember where I put it......Max can you help me look for it?" Emmy says, already searching all the drawers, and underneath all the furniture.

Max wonders around the room looking through all the old toys and some drawers that Emmy missed. After what seemed like hours, Max came across a little slit in the wallpaper. Max peels back the paper to reveal a small notecard.

"Hey, Emmy is this it?" Max asks pulling out the notecard and showing it to Emmy.

"Yes!!! You found it Max." Emmy then eagerly grabs the notecard from Max's hands but looks disappointed.

"Max, there's nothing on the card. I could have sworn I wrote it here." Emmy sighs.

"Wait....can I see that?" Max then takes the notecard and puts it up to the sunlight then smirks.

"Hey Emmy, remember how we would pass secret messages without our parents finding out," Max's says over his shoulder.

"No, why is that important.......................................ohhhhhhhhhhhhh. I understand now, but I still can't remember how." Emmy says.

"Well, what we used to do was use lemon juice and we would use the black light pen we have to see it." Says Max triumphantly.

"Great going Max!!!" Emmy then rushes over to the drawer where all their pens were kept and took out a small pen. Emmy then shines the light on the paper and the chant appears.

"Ok Max, ready to go back one more time?" Emmy asks excitedly.

"Ready when you are Emmy."

Both of them touch the glowing scale and start the chant.

I wish I wish with all my heart to fly with dragons in a land apart.

After the chant the dragons from the wallpaper come off and fly around them, taking them to Dragon land after so many years. But something doesn't feel right, the dragons weren't colorful, or cheerful. They seemed angry and they were colored black and grey.
Maybe it's just their imagination. Seconds later they appear in Dragon land............but where were all the dragons?

Max and Emmy walk down the path towards Zak and Wheezie's knucker hole. They both slide down the hole to be greeted by no dragons but still the same set up as years ago. Wheezie's side looked a little cleaner........little. And Zak's was as neat as always. Max ventures into the kitchen and Emmy ventures towards the bed. Emmy sees this lump under the bed sheets. She hesitantly pulls the cover off to be greeted my a lump of green and black scales. Emmy jumps back in surprise and speed walks over to Max.

"Hey Max, did you find anything?" Emmy asks.

"Yeah, I found this note, it says Dear Ord and Cassie, we are having trouble with out powers, we are afraid of hurting the kids, our minds are changing-from Z and W." Max reads aloud.

"I wonder what they meant by our minds are changing." Emmy ponders.

Emmy doesn't have too much time to ponder before Max is taping on her shoulder and Max shaking Emmy telling her to turn around.

Emmy slowly turns around to see this giant.....and I mean GIANT two colored dragon. A stone cold expression on its' face.

Emmy and Max both scream at the top of their lungs, frightening the two headed dragon long enough for them to crawl out of the knucker hole before flames erupt from the opening.

max and Emmy don't stop running until they reach a dense forest and they hide out in the bushes, waiting for the dragon to fly by.

Sure enough the dragon flies by and Max and Emmy exhale the breath they didn't know they were holding, but that one exhale was enough to get the dragons attention. It swoops down into the forest and starts smelling for the humans.

The dragon passes by but when Emmy and Max try to silently leave the other way, they bump into something scaly and warm.

"Found you."
