The feathers that are rainbow are from their Rainwing genetics they change according to their mood but they can change the rest of their scales on command to but only to match their surroundings and turn invisible not to any color they want. The white and blue are from their Icewing genetics, and the black ones are from the Nightwings.
Featherwings are basically descended from every tribe! So they get colors and powers from whatever tribe their closest related to.
For example Kaida has mind reading, future sight, frost breath, and Rainwing camouflage, since she is closely related to the Nightwings, Rainwings, and Icewings! All Featherwings are also closely related to the Skywings though Kadia didn't happen to get their powers or their colors. All Featherwings wings are even bigger than a Skywings wings.
