CHAPTER FOUR
who we are without each other▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃
𝐓hey were knee-deep without a plea, at least that was what Dabin realized. She wasn't the type to feel hopeless or scared, but this thing━seeing humans eat another human was a nightmare she wanted to wake up from. This was far more terrible than every little thing she used to be so afraid of. Nothing could simply compare to this nightmare of a catastrophe.
Unfortunately, as soon as the man managed to lock the doors, the glass began to crack. Just like what she expected. They stepped back from the doors, watching the cracks begin to spread all throughout the glass doors. Yong-guk suddenly grabbed her hand, looking terrified out of his mind, but Dabin didn't even care.
"Run!"
They didn't need to be told twice. Running seems to be the most effective thing against these things. They weren't even halfway through when the glass shattered and the horde spilled out of the station like they were water. It was horrifying and that was enough to send their adrenaline pumping through their veins like crazy.
"The train!" Dabin exclaimed when she noticed the train below them was starting to depart. She tried to ignore the sound of their hungry snarls from behind them. "Hurry!"
They ran down the stairs, but before Dabin could throw herself down, Yong-guk suddenly put an arm out to stop her. Then she realized. Her face paled, watching her friends get jumped on by those things. They didn't even get to scream when their words got cut off as they got bitten on the neck.
"No!" Dabin screamed. She pushed him out of the way and rushed toward the guys with her bat swinging in the air. Then she managed to hit one of them in the head and proceeded to kick him so hard he ended up toppling over the railings. "Yong-guk! Help him!"
But it was too late. She knew that, too. Behind her, the horde was already on the ground. Before she could get herself killed by helping her friends who could no longer be saved━the pregnant lady's husband pulled her by her waist and urged her to run if she didn't want to be carried all the way.
Yong-guk seemed to have snapped out of his shocked state after the kid's father dragged him up. They ran ahead of her and the husband, constantly looking back to see if the horde was catching up to them. It didn't make it any better that the train was starting to speed up alongside them.
Thankfully, Yong-guk managed to reach an opened door and pulled himself inside while struggling along with the other man. Then there were two. The husband ran at her pace. The kid's father and Yong-guk peered outside the door, the latter stretching out an arm so she could grab his hand.
"Grab my hand!" Yong-guk yelled, desperate clear on his face, and Dabin gritted her teeth as she pushed herself to run even faster. But she was already at her limit. "Come on! Faster!"
"I'm trying!" Dabin exclaimed. Beside her, the man suddenly looked alarmed. She followed his gaze and her eyes widened. "Shit."
Dabin quickly dodged out of the way just as the pregnant lady's husband went to pick up a baton and shield. She looked at Yong-guk alarmingly. "Get back inside! Now!"
She swung her bat as soon as one of them neared her. The man tried to fight them off just the same, using the baton and shield. They didn't stop running but they tried to put them off as best as they could. Yong-guk looked like he might stop breathing any time soon the longer he saw her on the ground and not on the train with them.
