author's note: this chapter shows the moment Blue met his brother after he had just gotten out of prison. So for reference this was around a year after the main plot.

I felt a bit like I couldn't breath. At some point I knew I would come back to Kansas but I always tried not to think about it. But now I couldn't avoid it, hell I was literally sitting at a barbecue place in Wichita. Santiago dropped me off, taking Milo with him. But something told me he was watching me in some way. After what happened he never let me out of his sight and something told me the bracelet he got me for my birthday had a tracker in it.

A few months ago when I got a call with a Kansas area code I hesitated to answer it, when I heard Red's voice I didn't know how to react. We hadn't spoke in so long and from the grainy quality over the phone I could tell he was still in prison. I questioned how he got my number until I realized I still had the same number transferred onto my new phone. He told me he was getting out and if I'd be willing to meet him.

All of the anger and resentment I had felt melted away. Probably because I wasn't alone anymore. My anger came from the pain 17 year old me felt when I realized I now had to survive on my own. Everyone was gone, my mother, my father, and now my brother.

My leg tapped furiously as I waited. It was summer and I could hear bugs buzzing loudly in the hot air. The sound was both familiar and unfamiliar. I was sitting at a picnic styled table, a couple of the tables around me were occupied. One by a large family and the other by a couple. My attention was pulled from my thoughts as a tall woman approached the table. She was a bit younger than me, with curly hair pulled into a bun.

"Can I get you something today hun?" She asked with the faintest accent. I liked to think that people in Kansas didn't have accents per say. It was more of a twang, one that I heard sometimes in my own voice.

"Yes but I am waiting for someone. He should be here soon-" I started to say as a taxi pulled into the parking lot in front of us.

"Of course, just let me know when y'all are ready." The girl smiled at me before walking back into the restaurant.

I felt myself getting nervous as the taxi door opened, I didn't know what he was going to look like or act like. The minute my brother was fully in sight my brain seemed to settle in a way. I stood up to my feet and walked forward to meet him. He looked healthy, his skin a bit darker than it was previously. His hair was cut low in a fade and he was wearing a tee-shirt and a simple pair of jeans. He had always been a bit taller than me but now he looked more built. I guess in prison one of the only things you could do was work-out.

Red stepped forward quickly and hugged me tightly in his arms. At the feeling I felt my heart squeeze in my chest, my eyes beginning to get glassy. My brother pulled back and flashed me a warm smile.
