THE END DID not start with the emergency message relayed by the government. It did not start with a bite to the shoulder or leg. It did not start with travesty.

The end started with a roadtrip. A getaway escape, to be more specific. The Sheridan home was a glum, deathly hole before the entire world was. Trauma was shelved away with the same amount of care the patriarch of the home had for Nancy Sheridan, which was already less than desired.

Here's the thing: Nancy Sheridan was strong. Her mother, was not. Not until what she refers to as 'The Last Day.' That was when Nancy's mother decided enough.

Which was fine for Nancy, of course. Up until sixteen years ago. Her mother had a child. Nancy's half-sister: Grace Sheridan. Then, her mother died of blood loss. It seemed it all came down to blood, nowadays.

Nevertheless, a eighteen-year-old Nancy Sheridan had to step up. Grace had to survive. So, Nancy did what she had to.

What she had to.

And that's what she'll continue to do. Until her last breath.

"I'm not doing the right thing or the thing that's less likely to send me to hell. I'm doing the thing that's going to keep Grace alive. Nothing else."

"You are my sister. Not my friend. My mother, even less. I don't owe you an explanation for anything."
