I woke up the next morning, rolling over to check the time on my clock.
"8:30AM" it read, meaning i have 30 minutes to get my shit packed and ready to go. might aswell start now.
I get up, starting to grab afew changes of clothes from my closet and laying them in a duffel bag.
I grab my mascara and a package of hair ties from the bathroom, putting them in my bag aswell.
once I have my necessities, I make sure to grab my headphones and afew cassette tapes I had recorded.
"Y/N! come here!" my mom calls me from downstairs.
"two minutes!" I call back, quickly changing into a pair of sweatpants.
"hurry up!" she calls again.
"Okay!" I yell back.
I walk out with my bag.
"good morning, sunshine." she said as she saw me.
"morning." I reply.
"what time are you leaving?" She pulls me into a hug.
"he said he'd be here at nine." I hug her back.
"alright, you have about 15 minutes." she turned and walked to the kitchen.
"okay." i drop my bag near the door, then go to sit on the couch in the living room.
I wait.
around 10 minutes later, I notice a red vehicle pull up outside.
I jump up from the couch.
"Is he here?" My mom calls from the kitchen.
"ah huh." I reply, starting to walk to the door.
"Hang on!" she runs over.
"what?" I turn around.
"this." she hugs me tightly.
"oh christ." I laugh.
she lets me go, when there's a knock at the door.
"what a gentleman." she laughs as I open the door.
"hi!" I say.
"Hey, you ready?" Tommy looked at my bag on the ground.
"Yeah, bye mom. love you." I smile at her, grabbing my bag off the floor.
"bye hun!" she smiles back at me.
Tommy smiles and waves at her as we walk to his truck.
"you wanna throw it in the back?" he points.
"Sure." I reply, doing so.
we both got into his truck and eventually he started driving.
"How long does it usually take you to drive there?" I ask after afew minutes.
"around 30 minutes. an hour at most." he replied.
"cool." I lean my head back on the headrest.
we're kind of quiet for afew minutes but eventually we find something to talk about.
After awhile we eventually made it to the camp.
I get out of the truck, grabbing my bag as I do.
"Thanks" I say.
"No problem!" he replies.
I make my way over to the cabin assignments to find my name.
they had seperated the counselors and campers once again this year, meaning i just had to look at the bottom of the board.

"CABIN 8; JOAN HARRIS, Y/N Y/LN-"
I stopped reading. I knew where I needed to be. atleast I had Joan in my cabin.
I found Joan as I walked to my cabin, so we went the rest of the way together.
"So, why weren't you on the bus today?" She asked me.
"A friend drove me." I replied.
"ooh! who?" she smirked.
I just laughed.
"no tell me!" she begged.
"Why?" I look at her.
"Cause...." she smiled.
"oh, hey, we made it!" I say pointing to the sign above the door to our cabin.
"cabin eight!" I smile at her before opening the door.
"don't try to change the topic!" She groans as we walk inside the cabin.
"I dont know what you mean." I smile, laying my bag onto a bed.
"You know exactly what I mean!" she yells.
"do i even want to know?" A voice says from the door.
I look up to find Tommy walking in.
i just laugh.
"oh, I see." Joan smirks.
"see what..." Tommy lays his own things on another bed near mine.
"nothing" she flashes a smile.
Tommy laughs.
While we were settling into our cabins, a couple other counselors trickled in. Alice and Arnie.
"Hey man!" Arnie puts his stuff down, fist bumping Tommy.
"Hey!" Tommy replied.
I snicker at the two, before greeting Alice.
"Hi Al." I smile at her.
"Hey y/n." She smiled back.
We all eventually have our things set up. Im laying down on top of my bedspread, with my headphones on, listening to music since we didn't have anything to do till the day after.
Tommy was sitting on the floor doing god knows what. Everyone else dissapeared.
schools out by Alice Cooper Played through my headphones, apparently loud enough for Tommy to hear as I saw him tapping his finger to the beat.
I pull my headphones off, turning to him.
"You listen to Alice Cooper?" I ask, surprised.
"Occasionally.." he laughed.
"Go figure." I sit up. "Where'd the others go?"
"I honestly didn't notice they left." he looked around.
"Psh, what a great counselor you are." I get up and walk to the door.
"Where are you going?" He asks.
"To find them, God knows what they're doing." I turn to face him.
"right, ill come." He stands up and follows me out.
we walk for a little while, asking around if any of the other counselors have seen them.
"jesus, you'd think someone would know where they are." Tommy sighs
"hang on" I stop for a second, noticing the smell dragging in the air.
"oh my god." i rub my face.
"wh- youre kidding! on the first day?" Tommy notices aswell.
"im not dealing with this today." i smile enthusiastically. "i propose we let them figure out their shit on their own."
"honestly, fair enough." He laughs.
We end up going back to the cabin, trying to pass time while we wait for lunch.
We have little chats every little while before the bell rings to signal everyone to come to the mess hall for lunch.
