we walked to his old blue truck, the only car in sight. the inside smelled of mint and sweat, like it always did. the engine sputtered when he put the key in, and the headlights flickered on, their hazy glow illuminating the street.
"where are we going?" i said.
he smiled.
"as far as we can until the midnight ends."
