The Quiet Artists

When I was a young girl, I often stayed quiet. I was the kid who listened to the grown-up in the room, did not protest and followed the rules.

The other kids, and even adults, would ask me why I was so silent. They would ask me if I had anything to say.

I had plenty to say, to talk about. I wanted to talk for hours on end.

But, words failed me every time I opened my mouth.

I would grab a pen and paper, I started writing instead. This was easier.

The way the pen flowed so freely on the paper, it was so surreal.

It was as if I had opened a whole new world on this blank sheet of paper.

I could create anything, everything I wanted. The possibilities are endless.

Words can be hard for a young child, especially for the quiet ones.

However, when you provide a blank canvas, their art speaks the loudest.
