Elena

I can feel everyone's eyes on me, but the only one I want to look at me are his deep blue eyes that remind me of my birth stone. I can see his irritation cross his face once he saw James's hand on my lower back. How can I stay upset at him when he looks at me with lust and desire in his eyes, but right now, that should be the last thing on my mind?

I look up at James and he sees the way Eric is staring at him and a smirk runs across his face. He runs his tongue across his top teeth, and God, I wish that tongue was licking me in all the right places.

God, Elena, get your mind out of the gutter. This is not the time to think about such things.

We walk towards the front of the table near Eric, and I am guessing that man next to him is his beta. James pulls out a chair for me and away from eric which causes that man to snicker. Eric gives him a death stare and uses the back of his heel to hit his beta on his toe, causing the man's knee to hit the bottom of the table, which causes everyone to look over here, fucking morons.

''Can you two fucking quit it and stop acting like children? This is not the time for this shit.''

''Why are we even here, James? You invited me for this dinner but never explained why I needed to be here.''

I just love that he sits in that chair like he owns this place, not. I need a drink before I can deal with them two bricking all night long over trivial shit. I look around and the family portrait catches my eye. I get up and walk away like I am being pushed out of my chair. I can hear them calling my name, but I can't get out of this trance I am in. I stop and trace my hand over the picture. You can feel how old this painting is. James must have been still a human child way his futures have changed but I can still see the innocent child in him still.

''I wish I could walk through this painting and relive that day with my children and my late beloved.''

Her voice was smooth like a shot of whiskey, and she was drop dead gorgeous. I wish I had beautiful thick long hair like her, and I would die to have that figure. I can see that she is James and Callie's mother. James has her blonde hair and some of her facial features and Callie looks just like her, but with dark brown hair.

Meaning I should be bowing down to the queen of vampires. Where are your manners at Elena?

I pull up half my dress to show respect and I bow to her, which causes her to sneak out a tiny laugh which catches me by surprise. Did I not bow correctly or something?

Good job embarrassing yourself like that Elena.

''I am sorry for my rudeness, your Majesty.''

''No need to apologize, I haven't heard someone call me that in a very long time. I am wondering why my son has a human girl living here?''

Should I tell her, or should I just wait until James says something to her?

''He saved my life a couple of weeks ago and I should wait to say anything else to you until James tells you. This is why we are having this dinner tonight. Sorry, I don't have anything else to tell you. I am Elena, by the way.''

''I see, but why is that Mutt doing here?'' Disdain written on her face.

''Are you referring to Eric?''

''Yes, do you know each other? I am not trying to pry into your business.''

''I do. I meet him when I was a teenager. I know a lot of people don't like him, but I can see that he still tries to do some good things. I can agree he can be a dickhead sometimes, but he will always be that way. Eric and I are mates, but it's complicated right now.''
