Carter woke up fairly early, it was around 6 o'clock. She knocked on Colby's door and had no answer, and figured he had stayed up late and was still passed out. So she let him sleep and went to make some breakfast.
Two hours passed and she decided to check on him, since he usually didn't like to sleep much later regardless of when he went to bed. She knocked on his door again and had no answer, and this time she chose to peek her head into the room.
The lava lamps gave her enough light to notice his bed looked empty and unslept in. A bit of panic washed through her out of instinct, but she tried to think rationally. He probably fell asleep on the couch in his studio like he did every once in a while.
She made her way to the basement and headed to the studio. She got to the door to see the light was green, that it was okay to enter. She peered in to see the lights were still on, and as she crept farther inside the more worried she became. Suddenly she was walking quickly to the other set of doors, whipping it open to look into an empty room.
What the hell??
She quickly glanced around before noticing the note with her name written in bold letters on the top of the folded page on the table. She cantered up to it and grabbed it with shaky hands. It read:
I'm sorry I had to lie to you, but this was the only way. If you're wondering where I am, maybe ask Sam and Dean where they are actually going for this case. I'll make it up to you when it's over.
Colby
Carter clutched the note in her hand and raced back up the stairs to grab her phone.

Dean was asleep in the passenger seat, Sam had taken a nap so he'd be able to take the first stretch of the drive. When Dean's phone rang it jolted him awake, which had Sam chuckling as he kept his eyes on the road.
"Might wanna answer that, if someone's calling this early it must be important."
Dean wiped his eyes groggily before reaching for his phone, squinting at the Caller ID to see it was his sister. He quickly answered.
"Mornin sunshine."
"Dean, where are you?"
He was immediately wide awake as he sat up slowly and warily. Her tone sounded very urgent and serious.
"Uhh Sam where are we?"
"New Mexico."
"Somewhere in New Mexico, why?"
"Colby's gone."
Dean felt a pit in his stomach.
"What do you mean he's gone?"
Sam whipped his head over worriedly as Dean put the call on speaker.
"He left a note, telling me to ask you two where you were actually going for this case. So do you wanna tell me what the hell is going on?"
Dean swallowed hard as he looked warily at Sam, knowing they were about to get chewed out but knew they had to come clean. He let out a sigh.
"The case is in LA."
There was a long pause on the line. Back in Kansas, Carter felt a sudden pain in her chest as she heard those words. She was angry and hurt that her brother and her boyfriend would lie to her, but mostly disappointed.
Dean was scared of the silence, so he cleared his throat and tried to explain.
"Look, I'm sorry we lied. Don't be mad at Sam, this was my idea. I didn't want you and Colby wanting to come along and get yourselves hurt."
