"Ow-"
"Sorry- I gotta pull on your hair a little bit to make sure it comes out right. Temporary hair dye doesn't show that well if you don't."
"Okay..."
The hardest part of this disguise is dying Sabre's hair to be at least a bit orange. All the store had was temporary dye, which is harder to use, but I'm pretty sure Sabre didn't want his hair permanently dyed anyway.
He shifts a little in the chair as I try my best to spread the dye evenly, Gerald watching from the bathroom doorway. I think he's nervous, Sabre didn't even really know what hair dye would do before I explained it to him, and then he read all the warnings on the box... let's just hope that this'll work even though it's not really meant for him.
"I kinda guessed your people wouldn't have hair dye, considering how your world is like." I say.
"Yeah, we don't. We'd never use our dyes for our hair; we have magic for that." Sabre replies, poking the box on the counter.
"You guys can use magic to change your hair color?" I ask.
"Transmutation works with colors too, not just changing what something is."
"So theoretically, you could turn a red thing blue?"
I start working on the side of his hair to finish the dye job.
"I mean, probably, but..." Sabre tilts his head to help me out. "I don't know how to transmute things yet. I was supposed to start learning when my parents got home from a diplomacy trip."
"Oh."
Crap, I knew I should've grabbed more dye. I could only cover the top half of his hair, the rest just gradients into its normal chocolate color.
"Shoot, we might have to cut your hair to make this work." I sigh.
"Wh- I'm not cutting my hair! I like it like this..." Sabre says, sounding upset.
"Well... maybe the hoodie will cover it when you have the hood on?" I say.
"I hope so."
I take off the plastic gloves I used and start to clean up the packaging and other things from the box. Sabre gets up from the chair, and I point to the towel I brought in earlier.
"Okay, now you need to shower off all the excess dye. I'll be waiting with Gerald in the living room, ok?"
"Okay!" Sabre answers, smiling.
I leave the bathroom and walk to the kitchen to throw away all this garbage. Red is there too, making some coffee. Gerald follows after me a few seconds later and plops down on his little bed next to the fridge.
"Hey kiddo, good morning." Red says, glancing at me.
"Morning." I say. "You have work today?"
"Yep, but the owner is visiting the shop today and said he'll take over while he's there, so I get to come home early." He replies. You can go into town with Sabre while I'm gone, just be home before sunset."
"Alright, thanks dad."
"Oh, by the way, anything bothering you from yesterday?" Red asks as he pours his coffee into a travel mug.
Oh right, I went to the dentist yesterday. It's cool how they were able to just- put the tooth back. Apparently because of new tech.
"Nope, not really. And my black eye doesn't hurt that bad." I answer.
