Bella forced herself to go back to the Cullen house the next day. She wants to see Carlisle. She saw everyone else but him. Bella knocks on the door and Catherine opens it . Bella mentally winces.

"Hey, Bella!" Catherine greets happily.

Edward winces when he realizes Catherine opened the door when Bella arrived. He wishes he could read Bella's mind so he knew it was her coming.

"Hi, Catherine," Bella greets. "Is... is Carlisle here?"

"He's in his office," Catherine replies. "Come in, please!"

Bella steps into the house. "Thank you."

Catherine nods with a smile. "I know about your and Edward's past and I'm sorry if I'm stepping on toes," she says genuinely.

"No, no, you're not stepping on any toes," Bella says. "I'm assuming you know?" she asks and Catherine nods, knowing what Bella means. "You're his mate. And it's been made very clear to me that mates and blood-singers are very different things. Just don't hurt him like he did me."

Catherine smiles softly. "I won't."

Bella walks up the first flight of stairs and then the second after Rosalie tells her which room is Carlisle's office. Bella's never been inside it. Bella knocks and Carlisle tells her to come in. He knows who it is because he can smell and feel her.

Carlisle sits back when Bella enters. His golden eyes trail over her, looking for injury, and he smiles faintly when he sees her in perfect condition. He, unlike Edward, trusts the wolves when it comes to protecting humans. That's what the tribe and pack are all about - protecting humans.

"Bella," Carlisle speaks her name and it shoots sparks through her stomach. He stands and he rounds his desk to stand in front of her. "How are you?"

Carlisle knows she's still hurting because of Edward and Catherine. He understands because Bella did love Edward.

"I'm..." Bella pauses before she can lie. "I'm not okay but..." she looks into Carlisle's eyes and that familiar feeling creeps up in her gut. "But I think I will be."

Carlisle steps closer to his mate and he takes it by her inhale and blush tha his closeness is welcome. He uses his index finger and his thumb to lift Bella's face to look at him when she looks down. Bella licks her lips slightly and Carlisle closes the distance.

Kisses with Carlisle are so much different than Edward. They're more welcoming, sweet, tender, loving. They make Bella melt. Carlisle has to wrap an arm around the human to hold her up when her legs turn into jello. She whimpers into the kiss as Carlisle lifts and sits her on his desk, swiping the papers and pens and pencils to the ground.

"Don't worry," Carlisle whispers to an enthralled Bella as she pants, staring at him. "The vampires left. Catherine can't hear inside these walls." He smiles. "I don't share Edward's belie-"

"Don't talk about him," Bella interrupts as she tugs Carlisle's short open, buttons go flying everywhere. She looks down at his toned torso. "Not right now." She runs her hands down Carlisle's chest and she leans closer. "Not while you're chest is exposed," she whispers and Carlisle presses their lips together once more.
