Valentina rushed back to her dorm room, closed and locked the door behind her.
Morticia had already proven that a locked door wouldn't do anything to stop her, though. And even a locked door was a luxury that she wouldn't have for much longer, not when the older girl had already decided they should share a room.
As much as she wanted to refuse, say 'no' to this whole farce of a relationship, she was at a disadvantage. They knew about her powers, and there was nothing keeping them from spreading that information should she turn down their offer of quote-unquote love.
Maybe... Maybe she could fix this, supply them with an antidote to the poison she injected them with. Then they could break-up on good terms. They'd keep her secret, and she'd be free.
Perhap she was just being naive and they would turn on her the second the sight of her didn't fill them with pure, unadulterated desire. But it was the only way out of this relationship that she could think of.
But what was the antidote? She could think of only one person who would know.
Her mother didn't answer the crystal ball on the first try this time, but 'persistent' was her middle name. Or, at least, it should be.
"Baby, I was with a client. What is it?" She sighed when she finally accepted the psychic transmission, rubbing her temples. All the repeated calls were likely giving her a headache.
Valentina cringed at the nickname. That was one thing Morticia had ruined for her. She didn't think she'd ever be able to be called baby again without feeling a pang of embarrassment.
"Hello, Mother! I'm sorry to bother you, but I had another question about my powers."
"Shoot."
"Is there any antidote for the poison Cupid's arrow contains?"
"Goodness gracious, why would you want one? True love is the greatest gift you can give!"
Her smile turned into more of a grimace. "I'm still trying to undo my mistake..." She replied, weak in the face of her mother's disapproval.
"Not this again."
"Yes 'this' again! Mother, this is really important to me!" She didn't like how that sounded. It was a borderline whine.
"Baby, sometimes you make mistakes and there is no way to fix them! You just have to move on," her mother lectured sternly.
There was a long pause before Valentina asked, "So there's really no way to kill their desire?"
"Now, I didn't say that. I said there was no antidote. Or, rather, no known antidote."
"So what's the solution?"
"Time. The phrase, 'Distance makes the heart grow fonder,' isn't always true. As lovers spend time apart, passions fade. Time kills everything, even love."
"Those are pretty words, Mother, but they don't help me much." It was the beginning of the school year, after all. She could try, but there wasn't a lot she could do to avoid Morticia and Gomez... Not if they were dead-set on being with her that is.
"I never claimed they would. I'm sorry, my little cherub, but this is one mistake you just have to live with."
That's when her dorm room door started to rattle. Was it Morticia picking the lock, or just CC struggling to get her key in the door?
"Mother, I have to go," she blurted out.
"Of course! Love you, baby!" Her mother replied before the crystal went empty and hazy again.
Valentina watched in anxious anticipation as the door swung open... Revealing the angriest little vampire that she had ever laid eyes on.
"Morticia Frump?! Gomez Addams?!" Her roommate hissed before slamming the door behind her. "You somehow managed to seduce the most infamous power couple on campus, and you didn't even tell me?!"
"I know... I'm sorry..." She sighed, her shoulders sagging inwards and her chin tucked close to her chest, looking properly contrite.
"So, spill! How did you manage to do it? Larissa's been third-wheeling those two forever but they haven't been swinging."
She paused, considered for a moment telling her the truth. Not the whole truth, but that she tricked Morticia and Gomez into liking her with love magic. The thing was, though, CC was the biggest gossip she knew of. Any word that came out of her mouth would undoubtedly be Paul-Revered around the campus by week's end.
"I don't know," she said at last. "They just sort of... Landed in my lap."
CC was quiet for a pregnant second before sighing and flopping down on her bed.
"Well, you're the envy of everyone at Nevermore," she told the ceiling. Yay. Great. "I should have guessed Tish was into you, given how she walked right up to you and started talking about visions of love on your first day. Maybe that was her way of flirting? It's hard to tell with those two because they're just so strange. Uh, no offense!"
"No offense taken. I know they're a couple of oddballs." Valentina said with a wince. Then, "I wanted you to hear this from me first... I may be switching rooms with Larissa Weems."
"Woah, woah, woah! You and Morticia have been together for less than a week and you're already moving in together? Don't you think that's moving a little fast?"
"I do, but she's very... Insistent. To say the least."
"What do you want?" CC asked. "You shouldn't let Gomez and Morticia pressure you into things just because it's two against one!"
If only it were that simple... "I want to stay here with you, but I think it would be good for Larissa to branch out, meet new people..."
"Has anyone ever told you that you might have a martyr complex?"
"Hardy ha ha," Valentina fake-laughed before standing up from her desk, surveying her wide collection of stuffed animals. "Now how the hell am I gonna get these guys back into my steam trunks?"
